In a world where excellence equates to societal expectations, we often overlook a group of individuals who, despite their constant struggle, manage to not just survive but soar. They are those students who carried not just heavy school essentials but the unseen, crushing weight of self-doubt and uncertainty on their shoulders.

Entering one of the country’s most challenging academic programs, the cycle of enduring sleepless nights fueled by countless cups of tea became the harsh new reality for every accountancy student. Glancing at examination results that barely secured a passing mark, a near-miss like the 81.45% score—they pressed on. It is with a heavy heart that they grind for a future seemingly unsure, yet they continuously move forward in hope of greater returns.

With the sustained institutional criteria, only those who committed themselves to intense study managed to leap toward the next, heavier battle of the professional review, while those who had previously faltered, having given up almost everything, found the courage and resilience to persist.

“Every time I felt like giving up, I always looked back to the sacrifices of my parents, who endured life hardships for us to live comfortably,” shared Genesis Sora Casa, who achieved the remarkable feat of ranking 6th in the October 2025 CPALE, during the testimonial rites. To give back without feeling forced, fueled not by obligation but by profound love, centered on the household’s crucial and nurturing role. Parents have indeed served as the backbone of these breakthroughs.

After ample years spent in college, another formidable challenge had to be defeated: the CPA Licensure Examination, widely acknowledged as the second-hardest existing professional examination. With often limited resources and time for focused review, these examinees persevered despite suffering from personal inconsistencies. They showed up, day after grueling day, clinging to the small, flickering hope of seeing their names on the list of successful passers, drawing hope and strength from the company they kept during their highs and lows.

Behind their success stand the dedicated educators. These professors provided them the best training ground where success is forged in difficult times and challenging life choices. They prepared mind-numbing examinations, knowing that their examinees will one day appreciate and thank themselves for going through those tests.

Achieving a 96.15% passing rate—the highest CPALE rating the institution has recorded so far—is a powerful reaffirmation of excellence and values anchored in commitment and collective hard work. This achievement further bridges the legacy of producing highly competent and qualified professionals.

Testifying to transformative failures, these individuals now represent the balancing figure for the equalized and just application and presentation of numbers that tell profound stories. This success marks the beginning of a more demanding journey where integrity and knowledge must be equally integrated to achieve a more sustainable society and country as a whole.

“Success is built on choice, effort, and lots of prayer, with enough focus and self-discipline,” Ms. Mary Jane Bautista, CPA, MBA, stressed during her closing remarks in the testimonial rites.

With the well-known mantra of the school, “𝐁𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞,” Bautista also accentuates another vital motto, “𝑷𝒂𝒚 𝒊𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅,” reflecting the kindness and support from nurturing excellence. The dean also encouraged the newly licensed CPAs to give back to the DWCC School of Accountancy community through practical teaching initiatives.

Moreover, Bautista also emphasized the role of the parents in entrusting their child to the institution, specifically with the School of Accountancy, for giving them the sense of comfort and support in times of academic struggles.

The dean also commends the commitment and dedication of the faculty, whose contribution shaped the successful CPAs as they embark on the accountancy profession. Bautista’s words serve as both an encouragement and a testimony to strive for excellence, uphold integrity, and always pay it forward.

𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐂𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐄

“All of you should be preparing for your future because passing the Licensure Examination is just the beginning of your accountancy profession,” Calapan City Mayor Paulino “Doy” Leachon stressed during his warm congratulatory remarks to the October 2025 6th-placer, Genesis Sora Casa, and to successful board examinees.

In addition, the city mayor praised the collective success of newly licensed CPAs as a milestone not just for the institution but for the entire City of Calapan, acknowledging that one’s triumph signifies self-initiative, guided by the Divine Word College of Calapan as one of the competitive schools in the country. Leachon also stressed the sustained support of the local government for students who are striving for an accessible education through scholarships and financial subsidies.

Leachon ended his closing remark by challenging the aspiring accountants to remain “dreamers” and serve as “the bedrock of this nation,” emphasizing their achievement as a testament to hard work, dedication, and the promise of a brighter future.

𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐆𝐄𝐒 “𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐒” 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐔𝐂𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒

“Who would have thought that a student who once repeated Intermediate Accounting 1 would show up tonight as Top 6 in the October 2025 CPALE? ” This has been a meaningful reflection from October 2025 CPALE 6th-place finisher, Genesis Sora Casa, in his heartwarming testimony themed “A Legacy of Excellence: Guided by Discipline, Inspired to Be Best” Recognition and Thanksgiving Program.

Casa's accountancy journey was a living reminder of a Bible verse, Proverbs 3:5-6. From a student who used to struggle and doubt his abilities to surpassing the national average, Casa’s story embodies faith and trust in God’s guidance and providence to remain resilient despite life difficulties.

Furthermore, what began as a misopportunity in the Southern Tagalog Accounting Quiz Bowl even became Casa’s turning point that fuels his determination to do better as a student. As someone who didn’t graduate with Latin honors nor become a dean’s lister throughout their college journey, securing Top 6 in CPALE was the last thing Casa had expected.

In his speech, he extended heartfelt gratitude to the entire DWCC institution for its tireless effort and support. He also shared that whenever he felt like giving up, he looked back on the effort and sacrifices of his parents for his education and for them to live comfortably.

Casa concluded by proudly affirming that they have stumbled as students but are now living the legacy of being CPAs who carry the DWCC name with honor, integrity, and responsibility. Casa's journey continues to drive and motivate aspiring CPAs to take failure as a driving force while trusting the process and rising with purpose in every setback.

𝐒𝐔𝐂𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊

“A strong support system serves as the essential backbone of successful individuals.” This has been underscored by Fr. Renato A. Tampol, SVD, PhD, in an inspirational address to the October 2025 6th placer, Genesis Sora Casa, along with its fellow successful board passers.

Fr. Tampol shared his longtime prayer of producing another topnotcher from Divine Word College of Calapan (DWCC)—a prayer fulfilled in a short span of time through two (2) exemplary individuals: one from AB Psychology, Cybelle Alexis A. Gayeta, RPm, and another from the School of Accountancy, Mr. Genesis Casa, CPA.

Moreover, Fr. Tampol acknowledged everyone’s fair contribution, specifically the “strong support systems” that have collectively worked to achieve one’s success, emphasizing that victory is sustained not only by hard work and patience alone, but also through vital support that empowers individuals to move beyond setbacks and unleash their full potential.

Fr. Tampol wrapped up his speech by affirming the vitality of moral values and moral responsibility that should not be compromised in return for greater heights, and reiterating the institution’s continuous commitment to producing more graduates and industry-prepared professionals anchored in the core values and goals of the DWCC community.

𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘

“Integration of integrity and knowledge forms the true description of a CPA,” a key opening remark emphasized by Br. Hubertu S. Guru, SVD, Ed.D., during the Recognition and Thanksgiving Program held at DWCC Main Campus, November 17.

Br. Guru reminded the newly certified CPAs that having an impressive intellect does not equate to having a successful path and that knowledge without integrity is solely cleverness. Additionally, Br. Guru stressed that success begins with the power of perseverance and the pursuit of truth, which, along with the affirmation of values and moral responsibility, is the greatest instrument one can ever have.

Br. Guru ended his opening remarks by empowering the audience that service to truth and service to the moral good of society are significant in achieving a morally good environment, as honesty remains the highest standard and a trait that sustains respect across different settings.
