“I am a Filipino–inheritor of a glorious past, hostage to the uncertain future. As such I must prove equal to a two-fold task–the task of meeting my responsibility to the past, and the task of performing my obligation to the future.” - Carlo Peña Romulo, Sr., the first Filipino to win a Pulitzer Prize, in his essay “I am a Filipino”

Stars Realigned: How Fate Plays With Our Lives

Life is a journey of growth and experience. Each encounter we have with a person is a prophecy ruled by fate, never knowing when they will disappear from our lives. Through them, we gain wisdom that continues to live in our minds, being a reminder of how we became mature people, making life better ourselves.

In Calasiao Comprehensive National High School (CCNHS), a student rises and picks up a challenge to become one of the few people he once admired—becoming a teacher himself.

An alumnus of CCNHS, Sir Jhon Ray H. Sarmiento, also known as "Sir Yong", is an educator who is currently working alongside his former teacher, Ma'am Richelle F. Jorgio. Both from the English Department, educating learners of the new generation to become professionals themselves.

According to Sarmiento, “In my life, she is my antecedent... Because I wouldn't be an English teacher if it weren't for her." The lesson that remained remarkable to him was her topic about antecedents—a person, place, thing, or clause represented by a pronoun.

To him, this lesson isn't just about grammar; it was a reminder of how Jorgio became a model to him before as a student and how much he was inspired by her lectures on English.

Jorgio is a well-respected individual among her colleagues because she has been working relentlessly until now. Each student who came from her is always trained by the principle she taught: "A mind full of knowledge is nothing if there is a heart that is empty of goodness."

This moral helped Sarmiento to become the person his students look up to. She recognized his talent and trained him to become more confident in his own skills, allowing him to grow from each experience he encountered and become successful like his teachers.

This is also a reminder that, through different times, destiny has a way of weaving lives together—allowing a bond between two generations to grow into an unbreakable friendship. What once began as a simple connection of teacher and student can transform, guided by fate, into a lifelong partnership built on respect, shared journeys, and the timeless power of genuine companionship.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13)

God gave us many things, from the material gifts we receive during special occasions to the skills, talents, and knowledge we uncover throughout our lives—refining ourselves to become an even stronger person day by day.

These morals are gifted to us from the Lord, making us realize that what seemed impossible became possible through the qualities we share with one another such as faith, hope, and love.

Faith is the unshakable belief we have for the Lord. Although, He may not be physically present and may not always grant the prayers we wish to come true—it is important to continue yearning for His unwavering love because only through Him can we achieve the everlasting life we aspire.

When we turn to unexpected routes of quandary, hope is the only answer to which we cling. The plan God has set for us is a path towards the effulgent future; unfolding each part is a series of endeavors with salvation hidden within.

Among these virtues, love remains the most powerful. This moral teaches people to unite, heal wounds, and seek the meaning of life. It tells us to treat others with mercy and to serve without pride. It is the everlasting principle of man because it reflects the love God has for His people.

This verse reminds us of the selfless values of the human life. Faith serves as the instrument, hope lifts us toward a brighter future, and love is the greatest among them because it is the foundation of all of these values; without this, faith becomes empty and hope becomes shallow. Love is eternal—it outlasts everything else.

United Once More by Devotion and Compassion

Every successful person has their own story—from being a student, they experienced happiness and love with their classmates and teachers, along with the unending schoolwork they tirelessly completed. They faced countless challenges that became remarkable milestones in their lives, reminders of the hard work and sacrifices made to build a better future.

Within the halls of Calasiao Comprehensive National High School (CCNHS), some teachers have built a legacy as learners that they now continue as educators.

Sir Michael Lorenz Roy was once a student who now uses his talents in teaching, inspiring countless learners alongside his former teacher, Ma’am Wilma Macatbag. Both are Filipino teachers and school paper advisers who continue to share the rich culture and impactful history of our language and mother tongue.

According to Roy, “Meron akong sense of fulfillment dahil yung mga dating ginagawa ng mga gurong aking hinahangaan noong ako’y estudyante pa lamang ay nagagawa ko na ngayon.”

He shared that his former teachers inspired his passion for teaching. The fulfillment that comes from guiding students and being part of their journey is a wonderful feeling that only a teacher can truly experience, which also encouraged him to pursue this career.

“Nakatutuwa na kasama ko na siya sa paghulma ng mga kabataan na magiging kabukasan ng ating bayan,” said Wilma. Having a student who decided to give his purpose to teaching and join her in shaping students for their future gives her a sense of joy and pride because he can now achieve what he really wanted to be.

These great individuals have cultivated students into their most flawless selves, discouraging timidity and planting kindness in their hearts while also training confidence within themselves.

Each lecture a teacher conveys to her students has a moral lesson that shapes a person’s future. These values have influenced Roy to be a part of the legacy Wilma is planting in her students, setting his passion for teaching aflame and inspiring students to reach for their dreams.

ARAL Program: The Scheme Towards a Brighter Future.

Learning has been evolving through many ways, from only having textbooks and physical lectures to free tutorial sessions for struggling learners and school-provided technology such as Chromebooks, online classes and e-books. Some students have different learning abilities, causing them to face hindrances in various areas such as reading, writing and more.

To suffice their needs and match the global standard, there are several programs to help students improve their learning abilities and encourage them to reach for their dreams.

In October 2024, the Department of Education (DepEd) launched the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program guided by DepEd Order 18, s. 2025 and the Republic Act No. 12028 to establish a free and effective environment for students who do not meet the minimum proficiency level.

This program extends to numerous areas of education where students commonly struggle, replacing the subprograms of the National Recovery Learning Program (NRLP) with Aral-Reading, Aral-Mathematics and Aral-Science.

In Calasiao Comprehensive National High School (CCNHS), there are 854 students chosen based on the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) coordinated in June 2025. The school conducted a pilot test of ARAL-Reading this Friday, September 12, 2025 to orient and set the expectations to the learners involved, have enough time to establish rapport between the learners and the teachers, as well as identify possible instructional concerns. Countless teachers from the English and Filipino Departments were tasked to teach students in this program, aiming to strengthen the abilities of learners and meet expectations.

The ARAL Program is a well-thought-out and analytics-based national recovery program made to supplement learning for enhancing the skills of students in core subjects and learners who have returned to school after a voluntary leave to keep up with the global intelligence caliber

Struggling is a sign of progress; without experiencing labor, a person cannot grow into a beautiful flower. Each time we encounter difficult challenges is a chance for us to develop ourselves and learn with perseverance because life can have rocky roads, but never giving up is what makes a successful person.

CCNHS honors Virgin Mary, convenes Holy Mass

To commemorate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Calasiao Comprehensive National High School (CCNHS) held a Holy Mass at the school's Multi-Purpose Hall on Sep. 8, 2025.

Rev. Fr. Antonio Ray Quintans officiated the holy mass and catholic students, educators, and staff came to offer their devotion to the holy mother.

Meanwhile, non-Catholic students took part in a Bible study with the topic of identity, self-worth, and purpose based on the verse, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession” (1 Peter 2:9). The session was led by Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP) teachers, Sir David Zulueta, Sir Johnniely Bautista, Sir Romwell Macapuno, and other non-Catholic ESP teachers.

Every hat tells a story, and every hand that passes it carries a voice. In The Hat Tribune, we wear different hats, but together we share one story—ours.

Each hat may look different, but behind it is a dream, a struggle, a hope, and a voice worth hearing. And when we pass these hats to one another, we are not just sharing roles, we are sharing pieces of who we are.

Our meaning is found not in wearing the same hat, but in celebrating the many that make us whole. Every article, every sketch, every photo, it is a page of our story, written not by one but by all. It is a reminder that no story shines alone, but together, we create a volume filled with meaning, with love, and with us.

Because in the end, The Hat Tribune is more than a publication, it is our shared voice, our shared journey, and our shared heart.

We may wear different hats, carry different stories, and bring different skills, but together we walk toward new horizons, painted with the hues of our shared passion.

Unending nights wherein life feels overwhelmingly heavy, feeling the pressure of expectations. Sometimes it’s not just about academics, but about the silent battles. In these moments, it can feel impossible to find joy, and darkness seems louder than hope. Yet, Psalm 30:5 (NKJV) whispers a promise we often forget, “Weeping may endure a night, but joy comes in the morning.” God assures us that joy will always come, like the rising sun after the deepest dark.

It acknowledges that all the struggles we go through are temporary. The night may stretch long, but it will eventually end. This verse is our anchor—that beyond all of the uncertainties, there is still joy that God wants us to foreshadow.

The morning will bring a new perspective and unexpected peace. God sees beyond your sleepless nights and restless thoughts—He sees your heart, and He knows exactly what you need to keep going. Hold on to faith, even if it feels small because joy is not gone—only just a glimpse away.

Breathe, trust, and believe that tomorrow may carry new possibilities and core memories. Be reminded that the same God who holds the universe also holds your future. Your insights must be long and endless, and a joy will rise like the sun—certain and brighter.

Dancing Through Generations: Where Passion Meets Legacy

In Calasiao Comprehensive National High School (CCNHS), where bustling happiness and talent meet individuals. Teachers inside the campus stimulate students to learn while also guiding them to their chosen pathways. Some were even inspired by their own educators to take the trail towards the same career, where they build people from nothing into the best versions of themselves.

This is the story of Sir Albert Medina and Ma'am Charie Baranda—both teachers in the Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) Department, while also teaching dance in the Special Program in the Arts (SPA). They built their friendship through the art of dancing; they both share the same interest in that spatial area, keeping both of them interested with their stories and experiences, not only as co-teachers but also as friends.

"Always do your best as if you're the worst,” said Medina, whose mindset helped him push harder to become a great individual that also set his passion for dancing aflame. He expressed that being arrogant will only limit your potential, but keeping yourself humble will help you unlock the hidden depths of your talent.

"Seeing them succeed in their chosen career, it's the most fullfilling as their teacher," stated Baranda, who watched Medina grow from a kid who didn't know his capabilities yet to grow into a respectable person. In addition, Baranda expressed that looking at Medina teaching the same field as her gave a sense of pride and nostalgia, because who was once her student is now a product of her own hard work and success.

She was also once clueless about dancing, but because of Medina's unwavering support and curiosity in this field, she felt the sense to explore more about her capabilities that kept her motivated to continue teaching students to hone their skills to the fullest.

Seeing your student become a successful professional, inspiring new generations of learners, is a heartwarming moment for every teacher. This story reminds us that meeting people is a decision by fate, but seeing them once more after a long time is a miracle.
