Northwest Samar State Universityโ€“Main Campus proudly celebrates the achievement of producing 120 Latin honor graduates during its 46th Commencement Exercises, held at the RSU Socio-Cultural Center on May 29โ€“30, 2025.

Among the Class of 2025 honorees, 85 earned the distinction of Magna Cum Laude, while 35 graduated as Cum Laude. This surpasses last yearโ€™s total of 112 Latin honor recipients.

Ending his address, Lauderes encouraged graduates to face the future with confidence and bravery.

โ€œWe've spent years preparing for this moment, for tomorrow, a new chapter of our lives begins. Tomorrow comes โ€“ let it come, for we are prepared. We are prepared to face its uncertainties and opportunities head-on. For we continue with our heads held up high, and hearts and minds filled with the years weโ€™ve persevered,โ€ he uttered.

Following Lauderes was Bachelor of Business Administrationโ€™s (BSBA) Magna Cum Laude, Jordan B. Diaz from the College of Management (COM).

During the second day of the commencement exercises, Diaz urged his comrades to not be confined by limitations and strive for greatness.

โ€œTo my fellow graduates: never let our background make us feel small. Where we come from is not a limitationโ€”itโ€™s the beginning of a powerful story. We are capable, we are worthy, and the world is waiting for our light. So, keep believing, keep learning, and keep going. Because our stories are just beginning, and they are worth telling.โ€, he said.

Time seems to fly so fast. One moment, I was entering an unfamiliar place with only my dream in hand, hopeful of what my college life would bring. And then, all of a sudden, Iโ€™m entering the same place that used to be foreign to close a chapter where I culminate that very same dream.

But every chapter must begin somewhere before we move on to the next. This was a place where I was shaped to become who I am today.

Some days, I questioned myself if all the effort was truly worth it. Why am I pushing myself so hard?

Would it still matter if no one saw what I had to go through?

But if I stop now, am I saving myself from the hassle, or am I just giving up by letting it all go to waste?

Regardless of what might be the answer, I kept going.

There were times that I felt unseen. But Iโ€™ve come to understand that not all victories are meant to be recognized by the world. Some are meant to be felt in the quiet confidence of โ€œI did my bestโ€ and โ€œI did not give upโ€.

In those moments of doubt, I realized that growth was never meant to be comfortable. The endless revisions, the quiet breakdowns behind closed doors, and the unbothered mask that I have to put on. None of these were comfortable, nor beautiful. It was meant to be a raw and an unfiltered test of willpower.

In the end, this journey was never just about the destination. It was about the endurance, the struggle, and the dedication to finish what I started.

Now, as I prepare to step out into the world beyond these gates, I carry with me not just a degree, but a journey of lessons. I will exit this campus, leaving a legacy behind for those who might come after me.

As he marched on the stage, Selwyn Clark Ygrubay, a BS Criminology student, honor his father by holding his cherished photo during the 46th Commencement Exercises on May 30 at the RSU Socio-Cultural Center.

In an interview with The Courier, Ygrubay emotionally reminisced and shared the strength he got from his loved ones, particularly his father. A simple yet profound gesture that speaks volumes about the promise he had made to himself โ€” to make his father proud.

"My loved ones are my motivation for graduating, but the one who motivates me is my father. I dedicate this to my beloved father because when he died, I promised him that I would graduate not just for myself, but also for him,โ€ he said.

Ygrubay's act of tribute symbolized the enduring act of his father's love and guidance, capturing the essence of a man whose love and legacy continued to inspire his son's journey, even in his absence. | via Patrick Rubio
