𝑺𝑷𝑶𝑹𝑻𝑺 | Alex Eala continues to make waves on the international tennis stage, showcasing her talent and tenacity over an unforgettable two-week stretch. On September 7, 2025, the 20-year-old Filipina tennis star captured her first-ever Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 125 title at the Guadalajara Open in Mexico. Playing at the Grandstand Caliente, Eala staged a remarkable comeback against Hungary’s Panna Udvardy, recovering from a lopsided opening set to win, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. The victory not only earned her the coveted WTA 125 crown but also propelled her to World No. 61, her highest-ever ranking at the time, igniting pride across the Philippines and the Southeast Asian tennis community.

Riding the momentum from her Guadalajara triumph, Eala traveled straight to Brazil to compete at the São Paulo Open, a WTA 250 event running from September 8 to 14. She displayed impressive form in the opening rounds, dispatching Yasmine Mansouri, 6-0, 6-2, and Julia Riera, 6-1, 6-4, to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. However, her seven-match win streak came to an end on September 12 when she fell to Indonesia’s Janice Tjen, 6-4, 6-1, in just over an hour.

Despite the quarterfinal exit, Eala’s back-to-back performances in Mexico and Brazil mark a new milestone in her career. Her Guadalajara title, followed by a deep run in São Paulo, has catapulted her to a career-high ranking of World No. 55, firmly establishing her as one of Asia’s rising stars on the tour. With her confidence and form at an all-time high, Eala has shown that her recent success is no fluke and that she remains a strong contender for future titles as the WTA season continues.

𝑺𝑪𝑰𝑬𝑵𝑪𝑬 𝑴𝑶𝑵𝑻𝑯 𝑰𝑺 𝑯𝑬𝑹𝑬! | It’s that time of year when we celebrate curiosity, discovery, and the wonders of science all around us. From the tiniest atoms to the farthest galaxies, science helps us understand the universe and our place in it. 🌟

And what better way to kick things off than with some mind-blowing trivia?

✨ Did you know?
Astronomers have witnessed the birth of a solar system for the first time! 🌌 Using the ALMA and James Webb Space Telescopes, scientists spotted a planetary system forming around a baby star, also known as a protostar, called HOPS-315. It is about 1,300-1400 light-years away. Silicon Monoxide was found condensing in its disk, along with crystalline minerals that are just starting to solidify, the building blocks of future planets. Since it takes 1,300 years to reach us, we’re looking at the past, catching a rare glimpse of how solar systems begin. 🚀

Nakalimutan n’yo na ba ako?
Ako ang unang dumampi sa inyong mga labi,
ang unang dasal na ibinulong ninyo sa gabi.

Ako ang tinig ng inyong mga bayani,
ang awit sa mga bundok ng Katipunan,
ang bawat dugong dumanak para sa kalayaan.

Ngunit ngayon, bakit parang wala na akong lugar sa sarili kong bayan?
Mas madalas ninyong sambitin ang mga salitang banyaga,
mas mabilis kayong humanga sa kanilang wika.

Ako’y iniwan ninyong kinakalawang,

𝑺𝑷𝑶𝑹𝑻𝑺 | Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala made history on August 25, 2025, etching her name into the books by becoming the first ever Filipino to win a Grand Slam Senior’s Single Match. Eala triumphed over World No. 14 Clara Tauson of Denmark with a remarkable third set comeback, a landmark victory for the Philippine tennis community and a proud moment for the nation.

Despite early struggles in the deciding set, the 20-year-old remained composed and determined. She ultimately sealed the win with a 13–11 tiebreak, showcasing her passion and resilience on the court.

On August 27, 2025, Eala advanced to the second round, where she competed against Spanish player Cristina Bucșa. Despite failing to proceed to a third round with a score of 6–4, 6–3, Filipino fans still cheered and supported her. Eala could be seen signing autographs and interacting with them after the match.

While her Grand Slam journey in this tournament may have ended in the second round, Alex Eala’s historic victory has already inspired a new generation of Filipino athletes. With her career still unfolding, this is only the beginning of greater things to come for Eala and for Philippine tennis.

作为学生的我们，也能从七夕节中获得启发。💡就像古人对美好的向往一样，希望大家在学习中保持热爱，用智慧编织一条属于自己的星河，让未来的道路持续闪耀。✨️

The Qixi Festival traces its roots to the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl 💝. Separated on opposite sides of the Milky Way, they could only meet once a year on the seventh night of the seventh lunar month, when magpies form a bridge for their reunion. This timeless tale has made Qixi known as China’s most romantic traditional festival. 🌹

But did you know? Qixi wasn’t always just about romance. 💕 In ancient times, it was a day when young women prayed for skillfulness and a happy life, expressing their hopes and dreams for the future. 🌈

As students, we can take inspiration from this festival. 💡 Just as people long ago wished for a brighter life, may we nurture a love for learning and weave our own galaxy of wisdom—so the path ahead will shine ever brighter. ✨️

𝑭𝑬𝑨𝑻𝑼𝑹𝑬 | The spotlight was on Philippine Cultural College - Caloocan as two of its senior high school students and Scribe and Ang Patnubay's top editors, Michel Shana L. Sy (12A) and Janelle Anika S. Tan (12A), mentored by Ms. Dorothy Babina, proudly represented the school and the Philippines at the 19th FedEx/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge Asia Pacific Finals in Singapore. Janelle advanced to the Top 6 and went on to secure an impressive Top 3 finish together with her partner from Hong Kong, while Michel, partnered with an Indonesian student, delivered a strong pitch that showcased creativity and innovation.

The competition gathered the brightest student entrepreneurs from across the continent, challenging them to craft a market-entry strategy for a product addressing real-world needs in just a few days. For Michel and Janelle, it was an unforgettable experience filled with excitement, hard work, and growth.

“It was definitely thrilling, but equally stressful and intense.” Michel recalled with a smile. “Competing at this level tested how quickly we could think and adapt with people from different cultures. My Indonesian partner and I had to align ideas fast, even though we’d only just met.” She added that the toughest part was the pressure of time and the difference in language and culture. “We had to refine everything, from logistics, feasibility, and the financials, while only relying on translation apps to communicate." She also added that they had to find a common ground in all of their decisions and align each one's perspective as much as possible to create a product that is similar to their imaginations. "Coordinating across different styles of thinking wasn’t easy, but it was rewarding. Additionally, aside from the amazing opportunity itself, another big win for me was being able to build meaningful connections with people from different cultures—and to still keep in touch with them even after the competition ended," Michel added.

Janelle shared a similar experience, emphasizing how the event pushed her to grow. “It was such a fun experience, though it definitely came with its share of stress and pressure. Being able to have an opportunity like this honestly felt surreal. What made it truly unforgettable were all the new things I got to see and learn, and of course, the friendships I built along the way.

Working with my partner from Hong Kong also pushed me to step out of my comfort zone. We had to adapt to each other’s ideas and find ways to complement each other’s strengths. It wasn’t easy, but it taught me a lot about teamwork, adaptability, and trusting the process. Looking back, those challenges were what helped me grow and made this entire journey such a meaningful and unforgettable experience,” Janelle said.

For these PCCians, the competition was more than just a contest — it was proof that teamwork and resilience can turn big ideas into reality. Their success serves as an inspiration not only to their schoolmates and to the future batches but also to young Filipinos who dream of making their mark on the international stage.

𝑨𝑮𝑶𝑺𝑻𝑶 𝑺𝑷𝑬𝑪𝑰𝑨𝑳𝑺 | Larong Pambansa

Tuwing ipinagdiriwang ang Buwan ng Wika, binibigyang-diin natin hindi lamang ang kahalagahan ng ating pambansang wika kung hindi pati na rin ang mga tradisyong nagpapakita ng ating pagkakakilanlan. Isa sa mga pinakamasaya na bahagi ng kulturang Pilipino ay ang mga larong pambansa o larong Pinoy. Bago pa man dumating ang mga modernong gadyet at online games, ang mga larong ito ang nagsilbing pangunahing libangan ng mga kabataan. Sa tabi ng kalsada at bakuran, maririnig ang tawanan at sigawan ng mga bata sa paglalaro ng patintero, tumbang preso, chinese garter, at marami pang iba. Mga larong hindi lamang nagdudulot ng kasiyahan kung hindi nagtataguyod din ng pagkakaibigan at pagtutulungan.

Ang larong patintero ay isang tradisyonal na laro ng mga Pilipino na nagpapakita ng bilis at diskarte ng mga manlalaro. Sa larong ito, kailangang mabilis kumilos at magplano ang mga manlalaro para makalampas sa mga bantay nang hindi nahahawakan. Samantala, ang tumbang preso ay larong may kailangan ng lakas sa paghagis at bilis sa pagtakbo, kung saan sinusubok ang tiyaga ng mga manlalaro upang makuha at maprotektahan ang tsinelas. Ang larong Chinese garter naman ay nagpapakita ng galing sa pagtalon at balanse, pati na ang pagpapanatili ng koordinasyon ng katawan habang tumatagal ang laro. Sa kabuuan, ang mga larong ito ay hindi lamang nagbibigay saya bagkus ay nagtuturo rin ng mahahalagang kakayahan tulad ng pagiging wais, madiskarte, at mabilis sa pagkilos.

Mula pa noon, ang mga larong pambansa ay nilikha gamit ang mga simpleng bagay na nasa paligid tulad ng bato, tsinelas, o ibang mga pamato. Karaniwang nilalaro ito tuwing tag-init o pagkatapos ng klase, kung saan ang mga kabataan ay nagtitipon sa mga tabi ng kalsada at bakuran upang maglaro. Ngayong ipinagdiriwang natin ang Buwan ng Wika, paalala muli ito na ang ating pagkakakilanlan bilang Pilipino ay hindi lamang lamang maipapakita sa paggamit ng ating wika kung hindi pati na rin sa mga larong bayan na dapat nating ipakilala at ipagmalaki sa susunod na henerasyon.

These are a few of the heroes who remind us that independence was not given—it was fought for, lived for, and died for. Their courage is the reason we stand free today. Let us honor them, not only in memory, but in the way we carry their spirit forward. 💙❤️💛
