What is Fluoride Varnish?

Fluoride varnish is a dental treatment that can help prevent tooth decay, slow it down, or stop it from getting worse. Fluoride varnish is made with fluoride, a mineral that can strengthen tooth enamel (outer coating on teeth).

Keep in mind that fluoride varnish treatments cannot completely prevent cavities. Fluoride varnish treatments can best help prevent decay when a child is also brushing using the right amount of toothpaste with fluoride, flossing regularly, getting regular dental care, and eating a healthy diet.

Tooth Reinfection?

Dental clinics are still closed and would probably take a while before they re-open even after ECQ, because they have to be designed/ready to fight the spread of COVID -19, inorder to protect you and the dentist.

Generally, patients that have been treated with antibiotcs have to undergo tooth extractions or root canal treatments after, but our situation right now does not permit it. And before you know it, here comes another series of severe pain and sleepless nights.

Here’s to avoid getting your tooth reinfected again after completing a week of antibiotics while on ECQ :

• Always practice good oral hygiene.

• Always check the cavity, it should always be clean, there should be no trapped food.

• Do not chew on the side of the infected tooth, chew on the oher side.

• Do not eat sweets.

• Do not eat very hot or very cold foods.

• Do not sleep without brushing your teeth, after you brush, do not eat anymore, proceed to sleep.

• Always gargle warm water with salt to lessen the bacteria present inside your mouth.

• Do not smoke.

• Remember, antibiotics are not to be taken on a regular basis. Taking antibiotics for a very long period of time is not good to your body’s immune response and over all health. Always follow your dentist’s instructions on how to take them. 😊

What causes gum disease?

• Improper oral hygiene that allows bacteria in plaque and calculus to remain on the teeth and infect the gums is the primary cause of gum disease.

• Crooked, rotated, or overlapping teeth create more areas for plaque and calculus to accumulate and are harder to keep clean.

• Hormonal changes in puberty, pregnancy, and menopause typically correlate with a rise in gingivitis.

• Cancer and cancer treatment can make a person more susceptible to infection and increase the risk of gum disease.

• Smoking or chewing to***co prevents the gum tissue from being able to heal.

• Alcohol

• Stress impairs the body's immune response to bacterial invasion.

• Mouth breathing can be harsh on the gums.

• Poor nutrition, such as a diet high in sugar and carbohydrates and low in water intake.

• Diabetes mellitus impairs circulation and the gums ability to heal.

• Medications such as antiseizure medications increase the risk for gum disease.

• Infrequent or no dental care.

• Poor saliva production.

.. This message from a patient here truly surprised me this morning 😍 I told her that she gave me the courage to go on with what has been crossing on my mind for sometime already.

Since I have mentioned earlier that a number of my patients here are asking me truthfully on how they can pay me? And I always refused by saying this service is for free. At the back of my mind, I’ve always thought that , what if I told them that they can donate to charity what ever amount they really want to give on my behalfI?

I have been thinking and praying to God for this. I have so many reservations like, people might take it negatively.. or it will take away the essence of the free service that I ‘ve already started.. and that I am already comfortable with this set up.

But this message from Ms. Ethel Lapuz this morning has changed all my doubts and perspective on this. I realized that I should not refrain people from doing something that is sincerely coming from their heart. If they want to give, I should let them. There are so many people who need help.

This lady Ms. Ethel Lapuz donated to GMA Kapuso Foundation under my name, Doc Roma without me knowing it. It was really heartwarming to learn that people want to give back. And that helping is a contagious act , you help someone, that person will find a way to help someone and so on...

For those of you who really want to give back, I have Almusalita by Father Luciano Felloni on my mind to be the deserving beneficiary. I have been following Almusalita and I can see their sincerity and transparency on helping others. Details for Almusalita can be found on the 3rd photo.

It can also be any charitable institution of your choice. 😊

Please take note that this is not a requirement for you to have a free consultation, this is only for those who are willing and can afford to donate. I understand that we are all willing, but not all can afford 😊

You can donate under the name of this page, Doc Roma Free Online Dental Consultation or under your name 😊

Thank you in advance, God bless us all ❤️

.. Three days short of one month since I started running this page, and on the same day that it was announced that ECQ will be extended until May 15, I received these 2 notifications. It said, that this page now has reached 1,000 likes ( and 1,030 plus followers). The other one showed how many on the average this page receives messages daily from you my fellow filipinos here and from filipinos and some foreigners abroad, 95 percent of which, from people I don’t even know.. Some people have asked me - “Ano ba kasi napapala mo dyan..? Sa halip na magpahinga ka na lang habang lockdown..”. True, I don’t gain from this monetarily, cause as it is stated here, this service is for free 😊. Alhough a number of patients here had asked me how can they pay me?, I would always answer, “this is free po 😊.”

Since this pandemic started, I have always thought that there is something that God wants us to do, change, renew, or even fix .. We are continuously locked inside the comfort of our homes not because God is punishing us, but because on the positive note, He wants to give us ample time to rethink our lives.

This pandemic has made me discover what God wanted me to do during these hard times. That is to use my God given unique profession to be always of use while this crisis is ongoing.

So, for as long as there are patients who need me during this lockdown, this page will continue to be an instrument to relieve their pains and anxieties. This page will continue to write and publish to educate patients about their dental problems and to inspire them about the wonders of dentistry.

Yes it’s true that I don’t gain anything monetary from this, but I’m happy that through this page, I discovered what God intends me to do..It is time to discover yours. ❤️

Avoid taking these if you happen to have sensitive teeth...🦷

Hey Parents! This is Ariesa, a very good example of a very cooperative child. But how do parents like Mommy Jaycel Virna Canencia Gonzales make their child’s visit to the dentist a worthwhile experience that they would like to comeback ?

Here are some of the DO’s and DON’Ts :

DO NOT USE us, Dentists as a form of punishment. “Ang tigas ng ulo mo! Ayan na si Doctora, bubunutan ka ng ngipin nyan!!“ You onlly help them build a strong “fear of a dentist” at an early age.

DO EXPLAIN to your child the benefits of visiting the Dentist.

DO VISIT your Dentist for routine check ups, not only when there is an urgent problem like extraction / “ bunot “ as your main goal.

DO NOT LIE to your child, tell them honestly that you are going go the dentist , not to a party or to a mall and then suddenly you are at the dental clinic’s doorsteps.

DO NOT SHAME your child in front of the Dentist. “ Ang hilig kasi kumain nyan ng matamis Doctora! Ang tamad namang mag toothbrush!”. Always remember that your child’s oral care is your own responsibility. Be present when it’s toothbrushing time.

DO NOT HIT your child in front of the dentist if he or she does not agree to a treatment. Give her time to express his/ her feelings/fears. If there is a disagreement, that means you failed to explain to him/her the reason why such treatment is necessary.

DO NOT RUSH your child or the Dentist. “Doctora ngayon mo na sya bunutan kasi wala syang pasok ngayon.” Or “ngayon lang po kasi ako nalibre sa oras.” Remember that there is always a right timing for everything, especially your child’s dental care. Give them your time.

DO MAKE YOURSELF a good example, show your child that your oral care is as important as his/hers.

Always remember that your Dentists will do their best in the delivery of dental services, but your child’s attitude towards these services will highly depend on you! ❤️.
