Grade 7 students at Caloocan National Science and Technology High School (CNSTHS) delved into the world of Arduino and robotics through the Spark It Up! Robotics Seminar-Workshop, conducted by Grade 10 students under the mentorship of Mr. Rex Mendel Capili.
Organized by X-GEN, the seminar aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of robotics through interactive lectures and hands-on activities, fostering curiosity and creativity in the field of technology.
Held in three batches on February 27-28, March 3-4, and March 5-6, the event brought together students from Archimedes, Bohr, Copernicus, Darwin, and Euclid to explore circuit building, sensor integration, and Arduino programming.
While the lectures laid the groundwork, the hands-on experience captivated participants the most as the students assembled Arduino components and wired circuits and experimented with servo motors, potentiometers, and sensors, applying concepts in real time.
"Before the seminar, I thought Arduino would be really complicated. But once the Grade 10 students explained it, I realized it was easier to understandโand really fun!" shared Ashley Keh from 7-Archimedes.
For the facilitators, the seminar was more than just a teaching opportunityโit was a chance to inspire.
"As a former tutor, the seminar helped me understand how different students learn," said Shadrach Fajardo, a student from 10-Newton.
Participants also emphasized the impact of teamwork and mentorship, with Grade 10 students guiding younger participants through the learning process.
"Itโs amazing to see young minds being introduced to STEM in such an engaging way, as it can inspire future innovators," said Glhein Hista from 7-Bohr.
With students gaining new skills and confidence in robotics and coding, students expressed their interest in further exploring STEM and joining robotics-related activities in the future.
"I really appreciate the seminar kasi it taught me so much that can be applied maybe one day sa future ko," added Elliana Gozon from 7-Archimedes.
As the event concluded, both learners and mentors walked away with valuable knowledge and experience, marking Spark It Up! as a successful step toward fostering future technology leaders at CNSTHS.
