Smokey Mountain was a legendary Filipino pop group formed in 1989 by the iconic musician, composer, and National Artist for Music, Ryan Cayabyab.

The band's name was a direct reference to the infamous "Smokey Mountain" landfill in Manila, a notorious symbol of poverty in the Philippines at the time. Cayabyab intentionally chose this name and concept to give a voice to marginalized youth and to raise social awareness through music.

Long before she was a household name, Kristine Zane "KZ" Tandingan was just a young girl from Digos City, Davao del Sur, who lived and breathed music. Growing up, her vocals were heavily influenced by jazz, soul, and R&B.

However, her journey almost ended before it even began. During her high school years, KZ suffered a severe throat condition that caused her to lose her upper vocal range.
