Since 2003, we have been celebrating the Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day on June 30. It commemorates President Emilio Aguinaldo's issuance of a decree on June 30, 1899, stating that the Spanish soldiers who had been besieged for almost a year inside the church of Baler (in what is now Aurora Province) be treated not as prisoners of war but as friends.
