Northern Samar secured a return trip to the Palarong Pambansa after successfully retaining their title, battering Ormoc City 8-1 in the Baseball Secondary Boys' Championship game of the EVRAA Meet 2025, held at ESSU Can-avid on February 25, 2025.
The game began with a breath catcher, as Ormoc matched Northern Samar's intensity in the opening inning, setting the field into a blazing showdown between the two talented baseball teams.
However, Northern Samar quickly turned the tide with a home run in the bottom of the first inning.
The team's momentum continued to build, with a nice swing from the batter resulting in full bases and a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
As the game goes on, Northern Samar's defense kicked into high gear. A crucial pick-off attempt was made, and Northern Samar's momentum continued to build.
During a timeout, player #1 Baluyot exclaimed, "Score pa tayo!" , energizing his teammates. Northern Samar's catcher was acing his role then made several impressive plays, stifling Ormoc's offense and securing key outs.
One of the game's most crucial moment came in the 5th inning, when Northern Samar's fielder made an incredible catch, only to have the umpire rule it a no-catch due to glove detachment.
Fueled by determination, Northern Samar's bats erupted in the final inning, with a home run and a series of impressive hits, including a player bravely taking a hit by pitch to the chest. Northern Samar's defense sealed the deal, securing their gold medal.
The electric atmosphere was further amplified by the cheering support from Eastern Samar's contingent, who enthusiastically cheered on Northern Samar as if they were their own team.
They showcased the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship was totally heartwarming, Eastern Samar essentially served as Northern Samar's unofficial cheerleading squad.
โThe game wasn't that hard, but our training was. It's tough balancing school, family time, and baseball. Actually, their skills were hard to top, and their energy matched ours. It was more of a competition of strategies between coaches.โ Captain ball John Paul B. Montejo says.
