Eastern Samar State University Can-avid Class of 2025 participated in the university’s 60th Commencement Exercises on June 14, 2025, with the theme, “𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒖𝒓𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑮𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒖𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑴𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑻𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒔 𝑰𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆, 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏-𝑩𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈.”

University Board Secretary Dr. Debbie Joyce R. Voloso officially opened the exercises. Campus Administrator Dr. Geronimo A. Ellado then introduced the commencement speaker, newly elected Eastern Samar Governor Hon. Ralph Vincent M. Evardone.

Governor Evardone’s address resonated deeply with the graduates. He emphasized that graduation is not merely about receiving a diploma but about embracing the potential inherent in youth. “Today isn’t just about getting a diploma,” he stated, “it’s about what you carry with you. Not just your degree, but your youth.” His words inspired the graduates to recognize their own capabilities as they embark on their careers.

The 60th Commencement Exercises marked a significant milestone, not just an ending. The 550 ESSUC graduates, equipped with knowledge and experience, are now poised to make meaningful contributions to the nation and the world.

60𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀: 𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗨 𝗖𝗮𝗻-𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 2025

The 60th Pre-Commencement Exercises of Eastern Samar State University Can-avid Batch 2025, held on June 13, 2025, at the ESSUC Gymnasium, marked six decades of academic excellence.

The ceremony began with a Mass, attended by graduating students seeking blessings for their success. The formal program commenced with a processional of deans, faculty, the campus administrator, and the guest speaker, Dr. Vicente Agda Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Magna Cum Laude graduate Jimlyn Joy M. Diestro from BS Agriculture, gave an inspiring speech to her fellow graduates. This was followed by an equally inspiring speech from Dr. Agda, who delivered his message in a unique way by walking among the graduating students, forging an unforgettable and intimate bond. He left the graduates with this powerful reminder: “𝑨𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒅𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒓, 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒗𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕.”

The ceremony concluded with the triumphant distribution of diplomas, each graduate receiving one on stage to the warm applause of family and friends.

Eastern Samar State University Can-avid recently held its Recognition Rites 2025 with a warm ceremony honoring students’ achievements with the theme, “𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐥𝐚: 𝐀 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡, 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.” The event took place on June 13 at the ESSUC Gymnasium and focused on the awarding of outstanding students.

The ceremony started with a prayer followed by the National Anthem, and ESSU Hymn which was sung by the ESSUC Chorale. Dr. Christituta M. Balagat, Dean of Student Services and Alumni Affairs, extended a warm welcome, after which then Campus Administrator Dr. Geronimo A. Ellado presented the keynote speaker.

Alumnus Atty. Jeodinard P. Nuguit gave a particularly motivational speech during the ceremony on choosing one’s self-made path and making a difference. He expanded upon some of Robert Frost’s most renowned lines from “The Road Not Taken”:

“𝑻𝒘𝒐 𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒅𝒔 𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒘𝒐𝒐𝒅, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰
𝑰 𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚,
𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆.”

Atty. Nuguit’s words served as a reminder to students about the impact their decisions have on their personal journey. He shared with everyone a powerful story that ultimately inspires students to take challenges.

This year’s Recognition Rites have proven beyond doubt the commitment, endurance and hard work of students display proves their knowledge and a deep desire to learn more.

The future IT innovators of Eastern Samar State University Can-avid (ESSUC) received a powerful boost on Monday as third- and second-year College of Computer Studies (CCS) students participated in a patent workshop designed to empower them to protect their inventions.

Held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the Department of Information Technology building, the workshop equipped students with the knowledge and skills to effectively search for existing patents and draft patent applications for their own IT innovations. Dr. Kimberly Michelle Q. Operario, Director of IPOU Main Campus, and Prof. Mylene B. Ragobrio, Dean of the College of Computer Studies, served as key speakers and facilitators.

The workshop aimed to empower students to protect their intellectual property and translate their innovative ideas into marketable products and services. ESSUC's IT students learned about the patent process, including identifying patentable inventions, conducting thorough patent searches, and writing compelling patent applications. The hands-on nature of the workshop provided students with valuable practical experience. This initiative underscores the university's commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among its students.

𝗥𝗔𝗔𝗧𝗜 2025: 𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗨 𝗖𝗮𝗻-𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗖 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 95.37% 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

The Regional Annual Administrative Tactical Inspection (RAATI) was successfully conducted on May 8, 2025, by Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) Can-avid Reserved Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Unit for the school year 2024-2025.

The ceremony began with a courtesy visit to the campus administrator, Dr. Geronimo A. Ellado, and then a briefing conducted by CPT Doonie Rey M Diola (AGS) PA, the ROTC Commandant. The program proceeded with arrival honors, an invocation, welcome remarks, and faculty member and campus administrator introductions. One of the highlights was the inspiring message given by Col Illana, urging the ROTC officers and cadets to aim for excellence.

The proper evaluation commenced with a ceremonial parade, featuring the ROTC Officers, Cadets, and the ESSU Can-avid Marching Band. The participants displayed an exceptional spirit in withstanding both the searing heat of the sun and the downpour of rain to perform a flawless close-order drill, administrative inspection, and military stakes. The field demonstration, asserting the unit's tactical acumen and teamwork, was impressive. The RAATI Team was given a total rating of 95.37%, impressed with the ROTC officers and cadets in both theoretical and practical displays.

The successful conduct of RAATI 2025 is an indication to ESSU's commitment to maintaining high standards in administrative and tactical competence. The exercise provided a wonderful opportunity for evaluation, growth, and mutual learning in the region. The whole atmosphere encapsulated professionalism, camaraderie, and a shared commitment to service. The unit's performance stands for the hard work and commitment that goes into serving others, inspiring other ROTC units in the region.

Eastern Samar State University Can-avid held a General Assembly for University Regalia (Sablay) on April 14, 2025, at the ESSUC gymnasium. Various graduating students attended the assembly to be briefed on the approved university regalia, including the design and symbols. Dr. Geronimo A. Ellado, the campus administrator, extended the opening message while the Dean of SSAA Dr. Christituta Balagat explained the approved university regalia. The assembly ended with graduating students feeling informed and excited for receiving their Sablay.

This manual is like a battle plan that contains practical strategies for where to start your own publication, how to build compelling stories, and how to enter the tricky ethical territory of journalism.

This resource empowers the young journalists with skills and knowledge to tell their school's story impactfully and with integrity, thus living out the meaning of freedom of the press and creating a better community.

Eastern Samar State University Can-avid celebrated the success of its latest graduating class of criminologists with a testimonial luncheon held yesterday, March 28, 2025, at the ESSUC Gymnasium. The celebration began with a motorcade around the campus, followed by a program featuring an inspiring message from the campus administrator, Dr. Geronimo A. Ellado.

The luncheon honored the newly registered criminologists, who shared their experiences and insights during the criminologist licensure examination. ESSUC expressed its pride in their achievements and wished them success in their future careers in law enforcement and public service.

Eastern Samar State University Can-avid celebrated Women's Month with enthusiasm, adopting the theme, “𝐁𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐞 𝐬𝐚 𝐋𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐤𝐭𝐨𝐫. 𝐀𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐮𝐤𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐬.” Students and faculty showed their support by donning purple attire, marching in the parade, and zestfully joining the Zumba session.

This month-long celebration recognizes the crucial roles women have played throughout history and celebrates their achievements.
