Designing a Complete Industrial Automation System From Concept to Handover
Building an industrial automation system is much more than writing PLC code—it’s about engineering a complete, reliable, and safe solution from start to finish.
This infographic illustrates the full lifecycle of a professional automation project, beginning with the Functional Specification, where process requirements, operating modes, and safety objectives are defined. It then progresses through Electrical Design, PLC Software Architecture, HMI Development, SCADA Integration, Drive Configuration, and Functional Safety, ensuring every component works together as a unified system.
The project continues with Commissioning, where engineers verify I/O, calibrate field devices, tune drives, and validate machine behavior before conducting the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). After installation, the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) confirms that the system performs correctly in the customer’s production environment.
Finally, comprehensive Documentation—including electrical drawings, PLC backups, alarm lists, network diagrams, operating manuals, and maintenance guides—is delivered before the project is officially transferred to the customer during the Handover phase.
This end-to-end workflow demonstrates how experienced automation engineers combine electrical engineering, PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, industrial networking, motion control, safety engineering, testing, and documentation to deliver automation systems that are safe, efficient, reliable, and easy to maintain.
Great automation isn’t measured by code alone—it’s measured by how well the entire system performs throughout its complete lifecycle.
