ISPSC CGAD and CHR-1 Gear Up for Caravan
The ISPSC Center for Gender and Development (CGAD), in collaboration with the Commission on Human Rights Region I (CHR-1), conducted a planning meeting on May 21, 2026, at the ISPSC-CGAD Office, ISPSC Main Campus, Candon City, Ilocos Sur, in preparation for the upcoming Caravan, a nationwide initiative of the Commission on Human Rights set to take place in different campuses of the College this August 2026.
The planning session, which followed a visit by the CHR personnel to the ISPSC CGAD, focused on strengthening coordination and discussing collaborative activities for the caravan, which will be implemented in partnership with various National Government Agencies (NGAs). The initiative aims to further promote human rights awareness, empower young voters in exercising their right of suffrage, and foster citizen empowerment among communities and educational institutions.
Present during the planning were Atty. Mhelanie C. William, Attorney IV, and Ms. Celia M. Quedado, Information Officer of CHR Region I. Representing ISPSC were Ms. Maribel C. Ibañez, Director for CGAD, together with Ms. Glenda H. Parba, Chief of Global Citizenship, Human Rights, and Peace Education, who warmly welcomed the CHR-1 representatives and actively participated in the planning discussions.
The upcoming Caravan is envisioned to serve as a platform for educating communities and stakeholders on the importance of human rights protection, responsible citizenship, and inclusive development. Through collaborative efforts among partner agencies, the activity seeks to strengthen public awareness and encourage active participation in building a society founded on dignity, equality, and justice.
This initiative also forms part of the strengthened partnership between ISPSC and CHR under their Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), which renewed ISPSC's commitment as one of the Centers for Human Rights Education (CHREs) under the CHR program, and aims to intensify programs and advocacies related to human rights education, gender and development, and peace-building initiatives within the institution and the wider community.
ISPSC-CGAD continues to reaffirm its commitment to establishing meaningful partnerships with government agencies and organizations in advancing human rights advocacy and promoting a culture of inclusivity, empowerment, and social responsibility.
