Iti panangitandudo ti active aging ken lifelong companionship, sinelebraran ti City Government of Vigan ti Elderly Filipino Week manipud Oktubre 1 agingga iti 7 babaen kadagiti agsasaruno a programa a nangitampok iti kinasiglat, kinaandur, ken manayon nga akem dagiti senior citizens iti komunidad

Promoting active aging and lifelong companionship, the City Government of Vigan celebrated Elderly Filipino Week from Oct. 1 to 7 with a series of programs highlighting the vitality, resilience, and enduring role of senior citizens in the community.

Anchored on the theme “Embracing Age: Living a Life with Dignity and Purpose,” the celebration forms part of the nationwide observance mandated by Proclamation No. 470 (s. 1994), which honors Filipino elders and promotes their welfare through community-driven initiatives.

Renewing love, commitment

Among the highlights of the celebration was the first-ever mass renewal of marriage vows, where 74 elderly couples reaffirmed their lifelong commitment to their spouses at the Vigan Convention Center on Oct. 6.

Each couple received a bento cake, a Bible, and a ₱3,000 cash token, along with a festive meal to celebrate the occasion.

But beyond these, the ceremony symbolized the strength of long-term partnerships and the values of faith and loyalty that continue to inspire younger generations.

In his message, Mayor Randolf Singson assured the city’s elderly of sustained government support:

“You can rely on your city government. Apart from the tokens, you will also receive rice, food packs, and hygiene kits. Thank you for your sacrifices and the wisdom you continue to share with our community,” he said. | Vigan city gov’t honors elders, as it fosters healthy aging, community bonds

Babaen ti datos, pinatalgedan manen ti Ilocos Sur ti panagkumitna a mang-harness kadagiti estadistika para iti evidence-based decision-making ken inclusive development bayat ti panangselebrarna iti maika-36 a National Statistics Month (NSM)

With reliable data as a cornerstone of good governance, Ilocos Sur has reaffirmed its commitment to harnessing statistics for evidence-based decision-making and inclusive development as it celebrated the 36th National Statistics Month (NSM).

Architect and Environmental Planner Estrelita Rugnao, chairperson of the Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) and head of the Ilocos Sur Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), underscored the crucial role of statistics in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and improving public services during the celebration’s launch on Oct. 7 at the People’s Hall, Provincial Capitol, Vigan City.

“We celebrate this event to emphasize how statistics play an integral part in planning, decision-making, and measuring progress in our country,” said Rugnao.

“This also serves as an opportunity to strengthen the support and cooperation of both the government and private sector in improving the Philippine statistical system.”

She added that the NSM celebration also aims to promote public awareness and foster support for the use of statistics in nation-building by demonstrating how data impacts daily life — from crafting responsive programs to monitoring their results. | Ilocos Sur champions data as key to effective governance
