To ensure reliable internet connectivity for the upcoming 2026 Programme for International Student Assessment-Based Test for Schools (PBTS), Candon National High School (CNHS) received a Starlink satellite internet package from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Sept. 2.

The package will support CNHS in preparing qualified students for the 2026 PBTS, a computerized assessment that requires stable internet connectivity.

Beyond the assessment, the Starlink connection is expected to strengthen the schoolโ€™s daily e-learning activities by improving studentsโ€™ and teachersโ€™ access to online educational resources.

The upgraded connection will also support other school activities that require dependable internet access, providing CNHS with an additional digital resource for teaching and learning.

CNHS is one of two secondary schools in the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Candon City to receive digital support from DICT. Qualified students from both schools will take the upcoming PISA.

Behind every facade may be a struggle that continues to hope.

As Su***de Prevention Month unfolds this September, may we be reminded that each person is a main character of their story youโ€™ll never fully know.

Let this month move us beyond awareness and toward action. Let us create spaces where speaking about emotional struggles is met with compassion, where seeking help is never a source of shame, and where every person is reminded that their life has meaning and their presence matters.

To those carrying a heavy heart: you are not a burden, and you do not have to face everything alone. Your feelings deserve to be heard, and asking for help is a sign of courage, not weakness. Your story is still being written, and tomorrow can hold something today can not yet show you.

May this month remind us to be kinder, to listen without judgment, and to reach out when someone needs a hand to hold.

What lies behind every medal, certificate, and moment of recognition?

Beyond the applause is a journey shaped by dedication, perseverance, and countless hours of preparationโ€”a reality deeply reflected in the core values of student journalists who write not just for honors, but for real impact.

Let's hear the testimonies of some Siglat Iskwela Awardees of Candon National High School.

"Journalism is beyond certificates and medalsโ€”itโ€™s about being bias for the truth; kung hanggang saan ka kayang dalhin ng iyong tinta, at kung papaano ka magiging boses ng iba. Siglat Iskwela Award is truly something I will treasure," ๐˜พ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™๐™ฎ ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™š ๐˜พ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™–๐™ข๐™ž๐™ฃ, Ang Tinig Editorial Writer and National Schools Press Conference 2026 awardee, shared.

โ€œWinning is an honor, pero hindi ito 'okay na โ€™to'; improving is the challenge I take on next to make the next step even better. Masarap sa feeling na ma-recognize ng province because of your hardwork. I will continue to make Candon National High School and the Heritage Province of Ilocos Sur proud," ๐™Ž๐™–๐™ข๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™๐™– ๐˜ฝ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™–๐™ก๐™–๐™ฃ, The Voice Editorial Cartoonist and Second Placer in the Regional Schools Press Conference 2026, emphasized, noting that success should foster continuous progress rather than contentment.

"Being a Siglat Awardee is a great milestone, especially as a journalist. Ngunit, hindi maaring hanggang sa 'pwede na yan' o 'tapos na panunulat ko' na lamangโ€”journalism calls us to write for the truth, expose corruption, and call for change," ๐™†๐™ช๐™ง๐™ฉ ๐˜ฟ๐™–๐™ซ๐™š๐™ฃ ๐™‘๐™ž๐™ก๐™ก๐™š๐™ฏ๐™–, The Voice Sci-Tech Writer and 3rd placer in RSPC 2026, stressed, underscoring the broader societal duty carried by student writers.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe dedication built inside the classrooms to the recognition received on a bigger stage, ๐—œ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜€ ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—œ๐˜€๐—ธ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฎ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฒ stands as a celebration of the remarkable achievements of Candon National High School learners. It honors students whose passion, perseverance, and commitment have brought pride and inspiration to the entire school community.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽMore than just an awarding ceremony, Siglat Iskwela highlights the journey behind every achievement. Every award received represents countless hours of preparation, continuous learning, and the courage to pursue excellence despite challenges along the way.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽAs the achievements of our students are recognized, CNHS continues to prove that excellence is not limited to medals and certificates. It is reflected in the determination of learners who strive to improve, showcase their talents, and become responsible individuals who contribute to the schoolโ€™s success.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThrough Siglat Iskwela, the accomplishments of our awardees become a source of motivation for every learner. Their stories remind us that hard work, discipline, and dedication can transform dreams into meaningful achievements that inspire others to aim higher.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽWith immense pride, CNHS celebrates the brilliance and efforts of the Siglat Iskwela Awardees. May their success continue to illuminate the path toward greater possibilities, strengthening the legacy of excellence that our school proudly carries.

To bolster the readiness and journalistic skills of campus journalists for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), Candon National High School began its Pre-DSPC Training, engaging participants in actual field coverage, Aug. 15.

Instead of focusing solely on lectures, the training allowed campus journalists to apply their skills through actual coverage, with photojournalists going beyond the training room to document activities and broadcasters delivering live reports.

โ€œThe main objective of the training is to prepare our campus journalists not only through discussions but also through actual experience,โ€ Peter Gadia, The Voice School Paper Adviser (SPA) stressed, noting that both skills and confidence must be developed before the DSPC.

Gadia added that the hands-on activities gave participants an opportunity to experience the responsibilities of journalists in different fields.

โ€œThis undertaking ensures that our campus journalists experience the pressure and responsibility that come with real journalism,โ€ Gilda Viaje, Ang Tinig SPA remarked, highlighting that the activities provided an opportunity for campus journalists to practice gathering information.

During the training, Viaje also emphasized that the participants were given opportunities to practice observation and broadcast delivery, which are essential to effective campus journalism.

โ€œThe immersive training gave my fellow campus journalists the chance to experience what it is really like to cover an event,โ€ Sports Writer Xian Valdez said, noting that the hands-on activities would further develop their skills.

Valdez added that the experience allowed them to move beyond lessons and understand the realities of covering an event.

โ€œThe activities helped us realize that journalism requires more than writing; we also need to observe and gather information,โ€ News Writer Samantha Picardo said, emphasizing the importance of proper training in delivering stories accurately.

Picardo added that developing skills beyond writing is as essential as gaining actual field experience.

The succeeding Pre-DSPC training sessions will be held beyond regular class hours to ensure that no instructional time is affected, in line with the Department of Educationโ€™s (DepEd) three-term academic calendar.
