Commemorating The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

On December 12, communities across Mexico joyfully celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a day that reflects the heart of the nation’s faith and identity. She is embraced not only as a beloved spiritual mother but also as a unifying figure whose intercession is sought with deep trust. Many faithful continue to credit her with extraordinary acts of healing and grace.

The roots of this devotion reach back to 1531, when St. Juan Diego encountered the Virgin Mary on Tepeyac Hill over several days, from December 9 through December 12. During these encounters, she asked him to have a shrine built at the very place where she appeared. The astonishing image that formed on his tilma (a cloak made from cactus fibers) became a timeless sign of her care, drawing millions to prayer and reflection.

This sacred event profoundly shaped the spread of Christianity in the region, bringing together people of varied cultures and backgrounds, all gathered beneath her compassionate and unifying presence.
