Maryโ€™s College of Catbalogan (SMCC) held its inaugural Holy Spirit Mass for the 2026โ€‘2027 academic year. The ceremony took place at St. Bartholomew Parish Church, on June 11, 2026, with Rev. Fr. Armando Cagomoc presiding. After the Mass, the students went out to gather fruit and symbolic gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit acts as a catalyst for our spiritual development, just as the soil and sunlight enable the earth to produce its bounty when tended with devotion and care. The Eucharist, the gathering of fruit, and the unmistakable presence of the Holy Spirit each serve as manifestations of God's overflowing generosityโ€”revealed through the natural world and within the depths of the human spirit.

๐๐ž๐ฐ๐ฌ | SMCC Holds General Orientation for SY. '26 - '25

St. Mary's College of Catbalogan (SMCC) officially welcomed students for the new school year during its General Orientation on June 10, 2026, setting the tone for a journey of learning and growth. The orientation brought together both returning and new students to familiarize themselves with the school's academic structure, support systems, and core values. Mr. Wilfred Jabon stepped forward as the master of ceremonies.

S. Ma. Adelaida C. Huiso, RVM, opened the program with heartfelt welcoming remarks, addressing the student body with a message of unity and encouragement. "You are walking with us, with your fellow students, your teachers, your advisers, and the administration," she said, urging everyone to open their hearts and commit to the learning process in life. She reminded everyone that throughout their journeyโ€”intellectually, spiritually, and morallyโ€”students are never alone.

Furthermore, Mr. Jhake C. Ontuca, discussed the school's three-term calendar, explaining that this structure allows for balanced assessment periods and gives students regular opportunities to track their progress throughout the school year.

To ensure students receive quality education and holistic formation, SMCC offers various support services across different departments. The Finance Office, led by S. Ma. Cristina Eguna, RVM, handles tuition fees, canteen services, and other financial matters on campus. The Guidance Office, headed by Ms. Mary Joy Matilla, provides counseling, mental health support, assessment and testing, and follow-up services. The office reminded students that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, as they are committed to walking with students throughout their journey.

Other key departments also presented their programs and services during the orientation. The Registrar's Office discussed necessary student documents. While, the Learning Resource Center offers library resources and learning materials to support academic tasks. The Student Activity Coordinator (SAC) Office organizes co-curricular and extra-curricular programs for student development, while the Prefect of Discipline maintains an orderly and safe environment for the school community.

The Christian Formation Center, led by S. Ma. Irene I. Pirante, concluded the presentations by highlighting its role in nurturing spiritual growth among students. Through various programs and activities, the center aims to form students not only academically but also spiritually, in line with the school's mission.

As the orientation ended, students made their way to their classrooms, ready to face the new school year.

New students were introduced to the campus as part of their orientation program, on June 9, 2026, at St. Maryโ€™s College of Catbalogan (SMCC).

They were given an overview of the campus life as they toured the school's facilities, starting from the clinic and proceeding to key areas before concluding at the Student Activity Coordinator's (SAC) office.

The tour was led by Ms. Mary Joy Matilla and Ms. Trisha Isabel Hernandez, with the support of the volunteers.

The orientation helped incoming students familiarize themselves with the campus ahead of the academic year.

A new chapter begins as St. Mary's College of Catbalogan (SMCC) Inc. opened its doors to welcome students on June 8, 2026.

In preparation for the day's celebration, S. Ma. Adelaida C. Huiso, RVM and S. Ma. Irene I. Pirante, RVM, led a solemn procession throughout the school campus, offering prayers and blessings in every corner. This cherished tradition symbolizes the institution's heartfelt dedication of all learning spaces to Divine guidance and protection for the year ahead.

The Student Coordinating Council (SCC) gave a warm reception to all arriving students, directing them to their designated areas and setting an uplifting tone for the Marian community.

As the clock ticks to 6:45 a.m., the school community united for a morning prayerโ€”a sacred paraliturgy and Bible Installation facilitated by S. Ma. Irene I. Pirante, RVM. This spiritual gathering served as a powerful reminder that the Word of God will be a steadfast guiding light for every Marian student through both trials and triumphs in the coming year.

Following the paraliturgy, Mr. Wilfred Jabon and Ms. Jeralyn Dasig stepped forward as the program's emcees, masterfully steering the proceedings with energy and poise.

Moreover, S. Ma. Adelaida C. Huiso, RVM, delivered a warm welcome to the students, faculty, and personnel, expressing sincere joy and gratitude as she embraced each member of the Marian family

Furthermore, Mr. Jhake C. Ontuca, then took the stage to proudly introduce the Faculty and Staff membersโ€”dedicated educators and support personnel who will stand beside students, offering guidance and mentorship throughout their academic journey.

The program closed with a closing prayer, leaving the atmosphere filled with gratitude and divine grace. As the morning ceremony concluded, students made their way to their classrooms, ready to embark on a new chapter of learning with deepened faith, renewed determination, and a strong sense of community.

As the academic year unfolds, may we remember that challenges build strength, knowledge fuels growth, and every day offers a chance to rise. Let us move forward with courage and faith, for the Marian spirit lights the way to a brighter future. ๐Ÿ’™โœจ

From sacrifices etched deeply on their skin, to the women who showed us the way and accepted us completelyโ€”be it Mama, Mommy, Nanay, or Lola. Today celebrates those who brought us up with tireless love, who goes above and beyond, pouring everything into lighting our path.

They didn't just bring us into existenceโ€”they poured their own lives into ours with endless patience, mighty strength, and love without end.

Happy Motherโ€™s Day to all mothers and mother figures who continue to love us immensely and endlessly. We love you always. ๐Ÿ’

As the torch is passed to the next generation of campus journalists, we extend our warmest congratulations to the newly appointed executives for earning the trust and distinction to lead the publication.

May they continue The Horizonโ€™s legacy of upholding truth, integrity, and responsible journalism, while serving as voices of the student body and catalysts for awareness and change.

Good day, everyone!

We live in an era shaped by rapid technological advancement, influenced by powerful social and political forces, driven by economic rise and decline, and continuously striving for equity and justice. In a time where information travels in an instant and truth is often challenged by noise, the responsibility to remain informed, aware, and discerning has never been more vital.

As I prepare to step down and pass on the torch of leading The Horizon, I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey.

To our readers, thank you for trusting us, for listening, and for allowing our words to reach you. To my fellow journalists, you have shown unwavering dedication, integrity, and passion in the pursuit of truth. Continue to write fearlessly and serve with purpose. To my fellow Ignacian Marians, I congratulate you on making it this far. You have embodied faith, excellence, and serviceโ€”values that define not only this institution but also the kind of individuals you are becoming.

Carry these with you beyond these halls, and let them guide you in whatever path you choose, but always put responsible and ethical journalism above all. Leadership may end, but the mission continues. I thank God, and may The Horizon remain a beacon of truth and embody the true service it has always been doing.

Thank you for allowing me to serve. Wherever we are, whatever we have become, do not be afraid to raise your voice and keep that fire burning.
