St. Mary's College of Catbalogan (SMCC) officially welcomed students for the new school year during its General Orientation on June 10, 2026, setting the tone for a journey of learning and growth. The orientation brought together both returning and new students to familiarize themselves with the school's academic structure, support systems, and core values. Mr. Wilfred Jabon stepped forward as the master of ceremonies.
S. Ma. Adelaida C. Huiso, RVM, opened the program with heartfelt welcoming remarks, addressing the student body with a message of unity and encouragement. "You are walking with us, with your fellow students, your teachers, your advisers, and the administration," she said, urging everyone to open their hearts and commit to the learning process in life. She reminded everyone that throughout their journeyโintellectually, spiritually, and morallyโstudents are never alone.
Furthermore, Mr. Jhake C. Ontuca, discussed the school's three-term calendar, explaining that this structure allows for balanced assessment periods and gives students regular opportunities to track their progress throughout the school year.
To ensure students receive quality education and holistic formation, SMCC offers various support services across different departments. The Finance Office, led by S. Ma. Cristina Eguna, RVM, handles tuition fees, canteen services, and other financial matters on campus. The Guidance Office, headed by Ms. Mary Joy Matilla, provides counseling, mental health support, assessment and testing, and follow-up services. The office reminded students that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, as they are committed to walking with students throughout their journey.
Other key departments also presented their programs and services during the orientation. The Registrar's Office discussed necessary student documents. While, the Learning Resource Center offers library resources and learning materials to support academic tasks. The Student Activity Coordinator (SAC) Office organizes co-curricular and extra-curricular programs for student development, while the Prefect of Discipline maintains an orderly and safe environment for the school community.
The Christian Formation Center, led by S. Ma. Irene I. Pirante, concluded the presentations by highlighting its role in nurturing spiritual growth among students. Through various programs and activities, the center aims to form students not only academically but also spiritually, in line with the school's mission.
As the orientation ended, students made their way to their classrooms, ready to face the new school year.
