Next ICC hearing on Duterte’s drug war probe set for September

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has scheduled the next hearing in its investigation into former President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs for September 23, 2025.

The probe focuses on allegations of crimes against humanity linked to thousands of extrajudicial killings during Duterte’s administration.While government data recorded around 6,000 deaths, human rights groups claim the actual number is higher.

Duterte, who previously opposed the ICC probe, appeared virtually in the initial hearing on March 14, 2025.

FIRE NEAR UNIVERSITY IN MANDAUE

A fire broke out in Sitio Pokang, Barangay Looc, near a university, on Friday evening, January 24, 2025. The incident left several families homeless and caused heavy damage to the residential area.

The Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) received the call about the fire at 5:23 p.m. By 5:31 p.m., it escalated to the second alarm, and by 5:45 p.m., it reached the fourth alarm.

Firefighters declared the fire under control at 7:07 p.m. and completely extinguished it by 7:33 p.m.

Emergency responders from Mandaue CDRRMO and surrounding cities, including Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu, Danao, Talisay, and Consolacion, rushed to the scene. Barangay fire brigades and volunteer groups, such as ERUF and Chinese Fire Brigades, also helped contain the fire.

FIRE DESTROYS 36 HOUSES IN PAJO

A fire broke out in Sitio Sanggi, Barangay Pajo in Lapu-Lapu City on Friday afternoon, January 24, 2025, destroying 36 homes and causing around PHP 648,000 in damages.

The fire started around 1:28 p.m. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 1:34 p.m. and declared the fire out at 2:58 p.m. Nine fire trucks responded, led by Fire Superintendent Tito P. Purgatorio.

Officials said there were no injuries or deaths, but many residents lost their homes. One of the affected homeowners was identified as Wilmer Ching.

Fire Officer 1 Vincent Rhey L. Reyes is investigating the cause of the fire, while authorities are assisting the families who lost their homes.
