A 16-year-old girl lost her life at Sichuan Adventure Park on May 3 after her safety rope failed right after release.

She repeatedly shouted “没绑紧” (it’s not tied tight enough), but staff continued anyway.

She slammed into the rocky cliff multiple times before falling.

This diagram perfectly illustrates why proper procedure matters:

Safe Play Method -
• Harness and yellow rope properly secured to the body.
• Rider fully extended/reaches the safety point before full release.
• Swings safely along the blue arc trajectory.

Accident Play Method -
• Rider not fully extended + insufficient rope slack/arc.
• Released too early → immediate drop instead of swing.
• Body spirals and smashes repeatedly into the rock face (exactly what happened).

The park has been shut down for investigation, and this is being treated as a production safety responsibility accident.

Extreme activities demand zero tolerance for shortcuts.

If the harness doesn’t feel right — speak up, refuse, and walk away. Staff pressure or “just go for it” is never worth your life.
Safety is not optional. Check. Double-check. Then check again.

Rest in peace to the victim. May this tragedy force real change in China’s adventure tourism safety standards.
