Lapu-Lapu City Leads Pink October Campaign to Promote Breast Cancer Awareness
IRENE SINO CRUZ
Lapu-Lapu City kicked off its Pink October campaign on September 30 to mark the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Mayor Cindi King-Chan led the launch during a press conference at the Sky Bar and Lounge, Island Central Mall Mactan, in partnership with the Inner Wheel Clubs of the Philippines Inc. District 386 and the Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu Inc. (HRRACI).
With the theme “Stronger Together With Every Step,” the campaign promotes early detection, regular screening, and public education to fight breast cancer. Mayor Chan joined City Councilor and Health Committee Chair Dr. Emilio Galaroza Jr., City Health Officer Dr. Agnes Cecille Realiza, and City Hospital Chief of Clinics Dr. Francis Quirantee in urging the public to raise awareness—not only among women but also among men who face the disease.
Councilor Galaroza emphasized that the pink ribbon stands for solidarity and shared responsibility in advocating breast health. Mayor Chan encouraged residents to use the City Health Office’s free services, which include breast self-exam education, early diagnosis, and laboratory screenings.
Throughout October, the City Health Office and Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital will offer free consultations, breast check-up drives, ultrasound and mammogram referrals, and community seminars.
District Chairperson Sunshine B. Lim of the Inner Wheel Clubs of the Philippines pledged continued support for programs that assist patients and survivors. The group will host fundraising events, solidarity walks, school campaigns, and fitness sessions to promote healthy living.
The Department of Health Region 7, EVA Air, Crimson Resort and Spa, Bluewater Maribago, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, Island Central Mactan, MEZ 2 Estate, Sto. Niño Mactan Montessori School Inc., and other private partners have joined the campaign.
Mayor Chan thanked all partners for standing with the city in the fight against breast cancer.
“Together, let us raise awareness, empower women, and save lives,” she said.
