𝐔𝐒𝐉-𝐑 𝐉𝐇𝐒 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐂𝐌𝐀𝐑 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓

Naval Biliran Island, Philippines — From September 16 to 19, 2025, the faculty and student researchers from the USJ-R Junior High School Department participated in the International Conference on Methodological Advances in Research (ICMAR), hosted in Biliran Province State University.

With the theme “Innovative Pathways: Advancing SDGs Through Transformative Research Methods”, the event introduced groundbreaking studies aligned with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Among the student researchers were Liam Kirk Esler, who served as the oral presenter of his study, “𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙘𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙣𝙖 𝙢𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙖 (𝙂𝙪𝙮𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙤) 𝙀𝙭𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩 𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝘼𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘽𝙞𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙪𝙢 𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙟𝙖𝙫𝙖 (𝙂𝙪𝙖𝙫𝙖)”, co-written by Diana Angel Himang, Saffi Andrei Caoctoy, and Nina Claire Cabrera, which explored eco-friendly solutions to agricultural challenges.

Meanwhile, Gianella Myrrh Go represented her fellow researchers Xian Ricci Macabale, Gene Noelle Tolentino, and Minette Cabaluna, in presenting valuable insights into natural product research with their work on “𝙋𝙝𝙮𝙩𝙤𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝘼𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙪𝙢 𝙙𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙢 (𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙨𝙖𝙩) 𝙋𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨”.

Another notable presentation came from Jeannette Mae Maloloy-on, with colleagues CJ Abonitalla, Paul Christian Rio, and Eunice Angel Longakit. Their research, “𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙊𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙖 𝙋𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝘼𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙍𝙤𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨”, showcased sustainable innovations for construction.

Joining them were faculty members Mr. Nikko C. Catarina, LPT, M.Ed., who presented his study on “𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙏𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨,” and Mr. Ryan A. Reyes, LPT, MAT. Bio., who discussed “𝙏𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙚-𝙐𝙨𝙚 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙁𝙡𝙚𝙭𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙋𝙚𝙙𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙜𝙮 𝙐𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙊𝙈-𝘽 𝙁𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠.”

Together, they contributed to the overall success of the conference. Their cooperation and participation emphasized the institution’s dedication to producing transformative research that addresses real-world problems, fosters innovation, and advances ecological solutions.

On September 7, 10, and 14, the University of San Jose–Recoletos (USJ-R) Basak Campus opened its gates as one of the official venues for the Philippine Bar Examinations. These halls, so familiar to us as everyday spaces of lectures and lessons, have, for years, transformed into hallways of justice—bearing the footsteps, hopes, sacrifices, and triumphs of aspiring lawyers who will one day uphold and serve our nation with the law.

As we have our last day of online learning and prepare to return to our face-to-face classes, may we remember that the same hallways we walked in every day carry with them a deeper responsibility. The honor entrusted to our campus is a reflection of the trust placed in us as Josenians—the trust that we not only listen, but that we also learn to grow into leaders who can inspire others and help shape a future rooted in truth and righteousness.

And who knows? Perhaps these very days of online classes are God’s way of molding the next generation of the country’s finest lawyers. 💚💛

Today, September 10, 2025, the world commemorates Su***de Prevention Day. The month of September is also considered as Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.

Josenians, we've all heard stories of how people suffer through life and wish for the relief of death, even if it were by their own hands. Amidst the all-consuming pain that silently drives people to su***de, friends and family are forgotten and left behind -- left to grieve for someone that could have been saved.

In light of this, we've prepared a poem that shows the worried, confused, yet deeply caring perspective of a suicidal person's friend.

Meeting those who breathe yet silently decompose,
I stay awake all night with thoughts of your own,
Because I’m afraid you’ll take a life that became part of my home,
Possibly doing so knowing I can’t survive out here alone.

You might think it’s better to bottle up all that’s inside,
“I don’t want to burden you,” you say, but it really is your pride.
Don’t you know it’s a privilege to worry about someone as kind as you?
Don't you know I'm glad you decided to choose me to run to?

You’re here now, aren’t you?
You even changed for the better when your life went askew.
So I want to be with you; you who improved yourself so much, even if it was only a little,
It means you still have a bit of hope and love left to share with new people.

I know you’ve coped, writing about your unsaid thoughts full of rants and doubt,
Things you had to whisper because you couldn’t shout.
Yet after all you’ve conquered, life refuses to keep you as its instrument,
That even now, guilt follows you after you’ve reflected and listened.

Your pen runs out of ink, but your tears don't;
You constantly grieve your failures and put yourself to blame,
But as I sit with you, lifting ounces of your pain,
I wonder, does your pen still bleed the same?

Although I worry, and you struggle to survive,
I would rather worry than live without you alive.
Every morning, I look out my window and reminisce,
And I can’t help but be nostalgic about our memories I miss.
But I felt happy in the end, a bit bittersweet,
Knowing the one I spent those days with is still with me.

You break down as if you were in my arms,
But you’d never know that I’d hold you crying ‘till the break of dawn,
Because I’ll always consider you a gift from God,
So let me help you unwrap your tangled flaws.

I'm willing to, not obligated to, because you’ll always have a place with me.
Even if we fight or disagree,
I’ll keep you safe in my heart, where you can be free,
For we may drift apart, but the door to my soul is always open to you alone, my key.

You won’t be a stranger or second best;
You aren’t useless, and I won’t let you be neglected.
If life happens to me the same way, all I need is the assurance that you won’t give up on me,
That you’ll reach out when you can, that you’ll fight when I can’t.

We can protect each other from the hatred of this world,
We can comfort ourselves after vile things loathsome people put us through,
Like the judgment of others that come from people who can’t afford to comprehend you,
And the cost of living that almost cost you.

On September 7, 2025, Pope Leo XIV commenced a ceremony for the canonization of English-born Italian developer, St. Carlo Acutis, labeled as “God’s Influencer,” the first millennial saint of the Catholic Church, in Saint Peter’s Square, Vatican City.

Born on May 3, 1991, in London, United Kingdom, St. Carlo Acutis was deeply devoted to the Eucharist and used his skills in digital media to promote Catholic devotion worldwide.

He worked as a catechist during his teenage years and devoted his technological expertise to influence Christianity. One of his most significant contributions was the development of a website that exclusively documented Marian apparitions and Eucharistic miracles, making them available to a worldwide audience.

As the first millennial saint, this inspires us to spread the word of God through the rapidly-evolving technology with unwavering faith and love, as a simple click of a button can do wonders.

As Acutis once stated, “Our goal must be infinite, not the finite. The infinite is our homeland. Heaven has been waiting for us forever.”

Today, September 9, 2025, Cebu City and the Province of Cebu are observing a special non-working holiday, commemorating the birth anniversary of the late Sergio Osmeña Sr., the fourth President of the Philippines and the first Visayan to ascend to the nation's highest office.

Sergio Osmeña Sr. assumed the presidency in 1944 after the passing of President Manuel L. Quezon. He led the country during the final years of World War II and helped the Philippines begin rebuilding after the war. Despite his short term, he made significant contributions by bravely leading the nation through war, liberation, and recovery.

Renowned as the "Grand Old Man of Cebu," Osmeña was admired for his embodiment of wisdom, humility, integrity, and leadership. These qualities made him not only Cebu's pride but also a respected national figure. He passed away at 83 on October 19, 1961, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire the nation.

The celebration of Osmeña Day is more than just a tribute to a former president; it's a day to honor his selfless service and unwavering patriotism. His brief but impactful presidency defines true leadership as wisdom, sacrifice, and a steadfast dedication to the nation.

Every year on the 8th of September, the Church commemorates the 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙑𝙞𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙮, a feast celebrating her birth.

From the very beginning, Mary had already been chosen by God to play a unique role in the mystery of the Incarnation as the mother of Jesus Christ, for she was not born of original sin.

According to early Christian writings and oral traditions, Mary was born to Saints Joachim and Anne, a devoted couple who longed for a child. While the Bible does not record exact details of Mary's birth, September 8 is designated her birthday because it is exactly 9 months after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8).

In Christianity, especially here in the Philippines, this feast is not a mere historical remembrance but a joyous celebration for our dearest spiritual mother. This is marked by prayers, processions, and masses, often accompanied by local customs and festivities.

As Josenians, we are called to be Marians—following the Holy Mother’s path, embracing God’s grace from the very start of our lives, and shining as beacons of hope and faith just as Mary’s birth brought hope to the world.

Last September 2, 2025, the University of San Jose-Recoletos’ (USJ-R) Junior High School (JHS) strengthened its commitment to serving local communities by renewing its partnership with Brgy. Basak Pardo, Cebu City, as they signed a new Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).

Brgy. Captain Jun Tumulak, along with his council, led the regular session at 1:00 PM and had gathered the school’s officials and COP Core Group. The signing was attended by USJ-R JHS Basak Campus’ Principal, Mrs. Lea Mae Ladonga; Admin Assistant, Ms. Maria Louisa Pumatong; Faculty Member and Brgy. Basak Councilor, Mr. Yolandito Cagang; and Mrs. Ma. Rose Agaton, the JHS COP Anchor, whose presence during the activity sparked a new journey of cooperation and purpose.

Through this renewal, the University of San Jose Recoletos’ JHS Dept. will continue to serve their adopted communities through community outreach programs and other initiatives, together with the support of Brgy. Captain Jun Tumulak’s team. Truly, this partnership highlights their commitment to supporting and strengthening our communities as they foster unity through service.
