Permission Matters

Do people really understand what copyright is?

I’ve been called “madamot” for asserting my rights as the copyright owner of my own work.

Let’s be clear.

Support and copyright infringement are not the same thing.

No one is automatically entitled to upload, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative content from a copyrighted work simply because they like the song or believe they are helping promote it.

Permission matters.

If you create and upload a lyric video, karaoke video, or other derivative content without authorization, you don’t get to decide whether the copyright owner should allow it. That decision belongs to the copyright owner.

What’s ironic is being called selfish for protecting something I legally own.

Imagine entering someone else’s property without permission, then calling the owner selfish when they ask you to leave.

Respecting copyright is not greed.

It’s respecting ownership.

As creators, we have the right to decide how our work is used. Exercising that right is not “pagdadamot.” It’s the very reason copyright exists.
