Another Filipino who paid the highest price in the defense of our motherland.
In 2013, PO1 Ryan Asunio Ryan Page was one of fifteen SAF troopers aboard a police vehicle passing through a quiet village in Allacapan, Cagayan, until a landmine shattered the calm. The explosion ripped through their convoy, followed by a fierce volley of gunfire from nearly thirty communist guerrillas. Nine officers fell that day. Ryan was among the six who survived, but with life-changing wounds.
The blast stole his sight.
For months, he fought for his life in the hospital, enduring surgery after surgery. In 2016, he was finally discharged, no longer fit for service, but forever marked by the sacrifice he carried.
For twelve years now, he has lived in darkness, choosing a humble life with his family. Yet the nation will always remember what he gave.
He offered both his eyes for his country.
A true hero, in every sense of the word.
