11th Sunday of Ordinary Time

today says
And when he saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd.

Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers to his harvest.'

He summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits with power to drive them out and to cure all kinds of disease and all kinds of illness.

These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon who is known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who was also his betrayer.

These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them as follows: 'Do not make your way to gentile territory, and do not enter any Samaritan town; go instead to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.

And as you go, proclaim that the kingdom of Heaven is close at hand.

Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those suffering from virulent skin-diseases, drive out devils. You received without charge, give without charge.

Today’s gospel shows us the tenderness of Jesus’s heart.

Out of that compassion, He tells His disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few,” and then sends them out to heal, to cast out burdens, and to proclaim the closeness of God’s Kingdom.

We often think of the harvest as mission fields in far-off lands. But Jesus began with the people right in front of Him. He knew their needs, their wounds, and their hunger for love. He asked His disciples to respond, not with grand gestures, but with simple, faithful service to others as well.

Lord, help us to see every interaction with another person as an opportunity to serve You in the harvest. Amen.

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

today says
I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world.'

Then the Jews started arguing among themselves, 'How can this man give us his flesh to eat?'

Jesus replied to them: In all truth I tell you, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life, and I shall raise that person up on the last day.

For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in that person.

As the living Father sent me and I draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me will also draw life from me.

This is the bread which has come down from heaven; it is not like the bread our ancestors ate: they are dead, but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him."
He is clear that our life comes from consuming Him, an almost unthinkable action, we become who we are fully created to be when we are fed by Christ in the Eucharist. Receiving the Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith, is what gives us true life in Christ.

Jesus, help us have eyes to see You in the Eucharist. Make our heart more like Yours every time we receive You during Holy Communion. Amen.

Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

today says:

For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

For God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but so that through him the world might be saved.

No one who believes in him will be judged; but whoever does not believe is judged already, because that person does not believe in the Name of God's only Son.

God doesn’t come into our world to condemn it, though our actions are worthy of condemnation. God comes in love and mercy to suffer tremendously for our hearts. These verses are one of the most well-known in the whole Bible because they speak of God’s incredible love for each one of us.

Lord, help us to know how much You love us. Help us to share with others about how much You love and care for them. Amen.

Pentecost Sunday or Birthday of the Church

today says
In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, 'Peace be with you,'and, after saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy at seeing the Lord, and he said to them again, 'Peace be with you. 'As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.' After saying this he breathed on them and said: Receive the Holy Spirit.

If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven; if you retain anyone's sins, they are retained.

In today’s Gospel, the disciples are hiding behind locked doors, filled with fear. Jesus appears, not with judgment, but with peace: “Peace be with you.” Then He breathes on them, giving them the Holy Spirit. That breath carries courage, strength, and a mission.

Pentecost reminds us that God’s Spirit is alive in all of us. We are not raising our children alone. When we feel tired, uncertain, or fearful, the same Spirit who filled the disciples fills all of us, too. We can model how to manage those moments, and how to allow space for the Holy Spirit to work in our hearts,

Come, Holy Spirit and fill our hearts with Your courage and peace. Amen.

The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord

today says

And the eleven disciples went into Galilee, unto the mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

And seeing him they adored: but some doubted.

And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.

Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

The words of God in today’s gospel were directed toward Jesus's eleven disciples, we can be certain that they were meant for all followers, including each of us. It is a commandment and calling, and it can seem daunting at times. Following Jesus is not easy, but we can be comforted to know that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are always with us.

6th of Easter & Mother’s Day

today says
If you love me you will keep my commandments.

I shall ask the Father, and he will give you another Paraclete to be with you for ever, the Spirit of truth whom the world can never accept since it neither sees nor knows him; but you know him, because he is with you, he is in you.

I shall not leave you orphans; I shall come to you.

In a short time the world will no longer see me; but you will see that I live and you also will live.

On that day you will know that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you.

Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and reveal myself to him.'

The gospel today reminds us that Jesus’ tied love and rule-keeping together.

He wanted love to be the inspiration for following the Commandments. He didn’t want fear, guilt or peer pressure to be our motivation. Those emotions lead to resentment.

Love is His invitation to open the gate and step inside so we can enjoy the sanctuary of His grace, His kingdom here on earth.

Loving God, inspire us to follow Your commandments out of love for You. Amen.

5th of Easter

today says
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You trust in God, trust also in me.

In my Father's house there are many places to live in; otherwise I would have told you. I am going now to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you to myself, so that you may be with me where I am.

You know the way to the place where I am going.

Thomas said, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?'

Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

If you know me, you will know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him.

Philip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and then we shall be satisfied.' Jesus said to him,

‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? 'Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father, so how can you say, "Show us the Father"?

Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I say to you I do not speak of my own accord: it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his works.

You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe it on the evidence of these works.

In all truth I tell you, whoever believes in me will perform the same works as I do myself, and will perform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.

The gospel invites us to discover the relationship between Jesus and His disciples. The words of Jesus not only direct the disciples to the future, but also invite them to remain faithful to the course they had undertaken. Thus, in order to share with the Lord the glorious life, they must also share the same path that leads Jesus Christ to the Father's dwellings.

The Bible may have complicated messages/instruction not easily understood and causes us to feel confused and distressed but that’s why priests are there to guide and teach us. So we will also follow Jesus’ way and live eternal life.

Jesus, help me to remember Your word in times of distress. You have overcome the darkness and sorrows we have all faced. You are victorious. Amen.
