Misto Restaurant Introduces “The Monday Brunch”

CEBU CITY — Mondays may be known as the slowest day of the week, but at Misto Restaurant of Seda Ayala Center Cebu, the start of the workweek is getting a delicious makeover.

Introducing “The Monday Brunch,” a weekly dining experience designed to turn an ordinary Monday into something worth looking forward to. Every Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., diners can enjoy a sumptuous brunch spread for ₱750 net per person, inclusive of beverages and brewed coffee.

The concept is simple: start the week well—with good food, good company, and a leisurely meal that makes Monday feel a little less Monday.

Set within the welcoming dining atmosphere of Misto, “The Monday Brunch” invites guests to slow down and enjoy a satisfying midday feast. Whether it is a relaxed meal with family, a catch-up with friends, a casual business brunch, or simply some well-deserved time for oneself, the Monday offering gives Cebuanos another reason to make the first day of the workweek part of their dining calendar.

And, of course, no brunch is quite complete without coffee. Guests can enjoy brewed coffee alongside their meal, complemented by beverages included in the ₱750 net rate.

More than just a Monday meal, the brunch is an invitation to create a new weekly ritual.

Make it a habit to dine at Misto on Mondays, and discover how much better life feels after a sumptuous brunch.

With its generous spread, relaxed pace, and inviting setting at Seda Ayala Center Cebu, “The Monday Brunch” makes a strong case for changing the way Mondays are viewed—from a day to get through to a day to savor.

So gather your favorite people, come hungry, and give yourself something delicious to look forward to.

Kuwerdas Celebrates Maribago’s Proud Tradition of Guitar Making

LAPU-LAPU CITY, CEBU — In Maribago, the sound of strings carries more than music. It carries stories, craftsmanship, and a tradition passed from one generation to the next.

This September, Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort, in partnership with Barangay Maribago, celebrates “Kuwerdas: Celebrating Maribago’s Proud Tradition of Guitar Making,” a cultural celebration that shines a spotlight on the community’s long-standing connection to the art of guitar making.

At the heart of the celebration is the Guitar Gallery at the Dolpo Area, where visitors can discover locally crafted guitars on display until the end of September. More than musical instruments, the guitars offer a glimpse into the patience, skill, and creativity that have helped make guitar making an enduring part of Cebuano craftsmanship.

For generations, Cebu has been known for its handmade guitars, with local makers transforming wood and strings into instruments that have found their way into homes, celebrations, serenades, and stages. In Maribago, that tradition remains closely woven into the identity of the community.

Kuwerdas seeks to bring that heritage closer to both residents and visitors—not simply as a craft to be admired, but as a living tradition that continues to evolve.

The celebration also moves from the gallery to the dining table with the upcoming Harana-Themed Dinner Buffet, happening every Monday throughout September at Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort.

Inspired by the Filipino tradition of harana, the evening brings together familiar Filipino flavors and live music in an atmosphere reminiscent of the old-fashioned serenade. It is an invitation to experience culture not only through stories and craftsmanship, but also through food, music, and shared moments.

The pairing is fitting. Just as a guitar gives voice to a song, Filipino cuisine has long been a way of expressing heritage and bringing people together.

Through Kuwerdas, Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort hopes to create a space where guests can appreciate the artistry behind the guitars while gaining a deeper appreciation for the people and traditions that keep the craft alive.

Ultimately, the celebration is about more than guitars. It is about Maribago’s identity, the hands behind its craftsmanship, and the stories that continue to resonate through its strings.

This September, visitors are invited to discover the guitars, taste the flavors, listen to the music, and experience the culture of Maribago—one string, one story, and one celebration at a time.

Lace Up, Cebu: 10,000 Runners Gear Up for MILO National Marathon

The streets of Mandaue City are expected to come alive Sunday as around 10,000 runners converge for the Cebu leg of the MILO National Marathon, marking the 50th anniversary of the country’s premier grassroots running program.

The race, set for Sept. 6, will feature four categories—21K, 10K, 5K and 3K—catering to both seasoned runners and aspiring athletes.

Among those expected to draw attention is Olympian and Philippine Marathon Queen Mary Joy Tabal, a familiar name in the MILO Marathon who dominated the women’s division by winning six consecutive national titles from 2013 to 2018.

For Tabal, the MILO Marathon is more than just a competition. It has been a significant part of her development as an athlete, tracing back to her early years in running and eventually leading her to the international stage.

Her journey with the race, however, has also been marked by one of the most difficult moments of her career.

In 2017, Tabal competed in the MILO Marathon less than 24 hours after the death of her father. Despite the personal loss, she chose to honor her father by taking part in the race, creating one of the most emotional chapters of her MILO Marathon career.

Beyond producing elite runners, MILO continues to position the marathon as a grassroots program that develops young athletes and opens pathways toward higher-level competition.

MILO Sports Head Carlo Sampan said the program remains committed to providing young runners with opportunities to hone their skills and eventually compete internationally.

Adding more significance to this year’s competition, the Cebu leg will also pave the way for the selection of the MILO Marathon “King and Queen,” who will earn the opportunity to compete in the Sydney Marathon in 2027.

With thousands expected to line up across the four categories, Sunday’s race is poised to be both a celebration of five decades of running and a showcase of the next generation of Filipino distance runners.

Filipino entrepreneurs have another chance to put their businesses on the regional map. The ASEAN Business Awards (ABA) 2026 is now accepting nominations and applications from start-ups, SMEs, and large enterprises across the region.

The awards give businesses a platform to showcase their achievements beyond the local market. Start-ups and SMEs compete alongside large corporations for recognition. These businesses may operate on a smaller scale, but they create jobs, build products, and support communities.

Chinabank wins Quill awards for Investor Relations program and beauty queen campaign for My CBC

Chinabank achieved a double victory at the 22nd Philippine Quill Awards for its Investor Relations program and marketing campaign for its redesigned mobile app. The bank’s triumphs anchored a 15-Quill haul for the SM Group, which saw SM investments, SM Foundation, SM Supermalls, SM Residences, and BDO Unibank also recognized at the prestigious communications awards.

An initiative highlighting Chinabank’s commitment to shareholder value creation, “CBC Investor Relations: Focused on Value” won in the Financial Communication and Investor Relations category. Meanwhile, "My CBC: An App Fit for Beauty Queens," a campaign that humanized technology through creative storytelling and levity, secured an award in the Marketing, Advertising, and Brand Communication category.

The revitalized Investor Relations program addressed a share-price valuation discount by actively engaging local and international institutional investors and equity analysts. By increasing transparency, consistently highlighting CBC’s stellar financial performance, and accentuating the company’s brand refresh initiative, the program considerably helped improve CBC’s stock valuation and supported its re-entry into the PSE Main Index in 2025.

“We shifted our Investor Relations from a compliance-driven function into a proactive, high-visibility platform that consistently communicates Chinabank’s growth story,” Investor & Corporate Relations Group Head Gerald Florentino said. He also credited President & CEO Romeo Uyan Jr. and Chief Finance Officer Patrick Cheng for their hands-on leadership that led the market to re-rate the stock.

Featuring Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez and Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee, “My CBC: An App Fit for Beauty Queens” successfully introduced My CBC, framing the improved app as a tool for connection and empowerment across different age groups. The authentic mother-daughter bond and the lighthearted humor of “Melanisms”—Melanie’s trademark funny phrases—served as a metaphor for My CBC’s powerful features. Launched in time for Mother’s Day 2025, the video reached 14.1 million views and 15,000 reactions across social media platforms in just four months. It was also distinguished as the Best Program in Digital Marketing at the 2025 Bank Marketing Awards.

“The video bridged the digital divide by showing that My CBC is intuitive enough even for non-tech-savvy users. While humor was the primary hook, we ensured the comedic elements neither compromised the strength, reliability, and trust associated with Chinabank,” Marketing Communications Head Aileen Vallesteros said.

Organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, The Philippine Quill Awards represent the country’s premier benchmark for professional business communication. This year, awardees were chosen from a highly competitive pool of over 800 entries through a strict evaluation process utilizing IABC's highest global standards.

This year's Quill awards build on Chinabank's momentum from last year, when it also secured twin wins for its Brand Refresh Program in the Change Communication category and for its “Focused on You” campaign in the Marketing, Advertising, and Brand Communication category.
