In the dynamic landscape of Cebuโ€™s growth and development, architecture does more than shape skylines - it defines communities, fuels economic progress, and reflects the soul of a city. Leading this transformative journey is ArchiGlobal Inc., a proudly Cebuano architectural firm that has turned visionary design into a catalyst for sustainable, people-centered progress.

Since its founding in 2008, ArchiGlobal has grown from a local firm into a trusted partner for developers, institutions, and corporations across the Philippines. Yet, despite its expanding footprint in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, ArchiGlobal remains deeply anchored in Cebuโ€™s unique cultural and economic fabric.

โ€œOur approach is simple but powerful: design for people, place, and purpose,โ€ shares Architect Michael P. Torres, President-CEO of ArchiGlobal. โ€œWe do not just create buildings; instead, we craft environments that foster community, drive economic vitality, and honor Cebuโ€™s identity while shaping its future.โ€

What sets ArchiGlobal apart is the leadershipโ€™s hands-on experience in real estate development. With roots as former project managers at Ayala Land, the firm understands the commercial realities behind every project without compromising creative integrity.

This dual perspective enables ArchiGlobal to deliver architectural solutions that are not only visually inspiring but also commercially viable and operationally effective. โ€œOur designs are informed by strategic thinking as much as artistic vision,โ€ Torres explains. โ€œWe think about how a building functions within its environment, how it serves its users, and how it can grow value for investors.โ€

The firmโ€™s masterful reimagination of Cebuโ€™s iconic Tops Lookout exemplifies this approach. By balancing placemaking, contextual design, and business-savvy planning, ArchiGlobal has helped transform this landmark into a celebrated destination, earning local and international accolades while boosting Cebuโ€™s tourism and cultural identity.

ArchiGlobalโ€™s commitment to excellence is also reflected in its pioneering adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM). Starting its BIM adoption in 2021, the firm leverages this cutting-edge technology to improve design accuracy, streamline project coordination, and reduce construction risks, delivering greater value to clients.

Beyond technology, ArchiGlobal leads with sustainability as a core design principle. Whether it is a high-rise residence, mixed-use developments, or civic master plans, their projects prioritize energy efficiency, environmental stewardship, and long-term community impact.

Their own Cebu office embodies this ethos: a thoughtfully converted warehouse that now serves as a vibrant creative studio. Reusing materials and encouraging collaboration, the space mirrors ArchiGlobalโ€™s culture of innovation and resourcefulness.

For Cebuโ€™s business community, ArchiGlobal offers beyond architectural services; they provide a strategic partnership that helps projects succeed from concept to completion.

As Cebu continues to grow as a regional economic hub, the demand for thoughtful, innovative architecture is stronger than ever. ArchiGlobalโ€™s deep understanding of local needs, combined with a global outlook, uniquely positions them to contribute to Cebuโ€™s sustainable growth.

โ€œOur designs create lasting value for businesses, communities, and the people who live and work within them,โ€ Torres affirms.

ArchiGlobalโ€™s vision extends beyond Cebu and even the Philippines. As the firm embraces new global opportunities, it remains committed to celebrating Filipino creativity and ingenuity on the world stage.

For Cebuโ€™s investors, developers, and stakeholders seeking architectural partners who blend innovation, sustainability, and cultural resonance, ArchiGlobal stands ready to lead.

SM Supermalls in Cebu Conduct Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

As part of its ongoing commitment to public safety and disaster preparedness, SM Supermalls in Cebu conducted a simultaneous earthquake drill today, September 11, 2025. The activity was held across SM City Cebu, SM Seaside City Cebu, SM City Consolacion, and SM J Mall, engaging mallgoers, tenants, and employees in the coordinated drill.

The exercise was carried out in coordination with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Philippine Army, who all provided support and guidance during the simulation.

Each mall was led by the SM Emergency Response Team (SMERT), who guided participants through evacuation protocols and safety procedures. The drill aimed to test the readiness of mall personnel and reinforce coordinated responses with local emergency agencies in the event of a real earthquake.

SM Supermalls reaffirms its commitment to building a culture of preparedness and resilience, continuously working hand in hand with local government units and emergency responders to safeguard the communities it serves.

In the ever-evolving landscape of Cebu, where heritage and modernity coexist, Chong Hua Hospital stands as a quiet yet powerful constant: a place where generations have turned not just for treatment, but for hope.

For more than a century, Chong Hua has been more than just a hospital. It has been a guardian of life, a pillar of trust, and a sanctuary during lifeโ€™s most vulnerable moments. Rooted in compassion and driven by innovation, its story is not simply about curing illness, but about elevating lives through world-class, patient-centered care.

Since opening its doors in 1909, Chong Hua has remained true to its founding mission: to care with compassion and heal with purpose. What began as a modest facility has evolved into a regional leader in healthcare, boasting two full-service hospitals in Cebu City and Mandaue, with a combined capacity of 1,010 beds.

But numbers alone do not tell the story.

Behind every consultation, every procedure, and every life saved is a team of more than 4,400 healthcare professionals, including 804 medical staff, 1,527 board-certified specialists, and 2,162 allied health workers. Each one is committed to delivering not just treatment, but dignity, empathy, and trust.

At the heart of Chong Huaโ€™s growth is a bold commitment to innovation: one that never loses sight of the human experience.

In 2024, the hospital launched a game-changing facility: the Chong Hua Medical Mallโ€”the first of its kind in the Visayas and Mindanao. This 12-story space reimagines outpatient care by integrating clinical services, diagnostics, ambulatory surgery, and wellness amenities such as cafรฉs, retail outlets, pharmacies, and banks - all under one roof.

Features like Meds-to-Go, a convenient medicine delivery service, and a laboratory drive-thru make healthcare more accessible, efficient, and dignified, transforming traditional hospital visits into patient-centered experiences.

The Chong Hua Hospital Mandaue and Chong Hua Medical Mall are now officially accredited as Medical Tourism destinations - the only tertiary institutions in the region with this distinction. This milestone positions Cebu not just as a leading Philippine medical hub, but as a rising player in global healthcare.

In 2025, Chong Hua Hospital officially launched the FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND Chi Mobile App, allowing patients to experience the future of digital healthcare at their fingertips with real-time updates and a more accessible, intuitive, and user-friendly mobile experience.

That same year, the hospital broke new ground with the opening of Cebuโ€™s first dedicated Pain Management Center, addressing a growing need for compassionate, long-term care for those living with chronic pain.

Chong Huaโ€™s impact has not gone unnoticed.

In 2024, it was named one of the Most Outstanding Hospitals in the Philippines by the Philippine Hospital Association and received regional recognition at the Health Care Asia Awards for its service excellence and hospital and patient-first innovations for Medical Mall in April 2025.

As it looks to the future, Chong Hua Hospital is guided by a clear and ambitious goal: to become the preferred comprehensive healthcare institution in the Asia-Pacific by 2030.

It is a vision built not just on cutting-edge facilities or accolades, but on something deeper: trust, compassion, and a legacy of healing that continues to evolve with the times.

Because at Chong Hua, healthcare has never just been about machines, medicine, or walls but people. And it always will be.

Chong Hua Hospital is in Cebu City and Mandaue. For more information, visit www.chonghua.com.ph or follow them on Facebook at Chong Hua Hospital

Earlier today, September 10, a press conference and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing was held at the Capitol Building to announce Cebu Province as the official partner and host of the Miss Asia Pacific International 2025 pageant, happening on October 8, 2025.

Leading the partnership were Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro together with Miss Asia Pacific International President Atty. Eva Patalinjug-Lim and Executive Director Jacqueline Tan-Sainz. Also present during the MOA signing is Ms. Kristine Aplal, General Manager of Miss Asia Pacific International. Their collective vision is to highlight Cebu not only as a world-class destination but also as a hub for cultural exchange, peace, and inclusivity.

Governor Baricuatro warmly welcomed this collaboration, expressing her excitement about showcasing Cebuโ€™s rich heritage, natural beauty, and vibrant culture to the rest of the world. With 50 delegates from across the globe set to compete, Cebu will serve as the perfect backdrop for a pageant that celebrates individuality, diversity, and empowerment.

Miss Asia Pacific International, one of the oldest and most respected international beauty competitions, continues its mission of promoting harmony in diversity while inspiring women to embrace their uniqueness. With Cebu as its host, the pageant is poised to make a lasting global impactโ€”uniting nations through beauty, culture, and shared experiences. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‘‘

Over 500 participants gather at SM Seaside City Cebu to raise awareness, hope, and compassion

More than 500 Cebuanos came together on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at SM Seaside City Cebu to join the World Walks Against Dementia 2025, a global campaign uniting communities across 46 countries in raising awareness and compassion for those living with dementia.

The Cebu event was organized by the Purple Angel Global Dementia Awareness Movement, Cebu Childrenโ€™s Paradise Montessori School, Inc. (CCPMSI), and the Institute for Dementia Care Asia (IDCA), with the support of SM Cares and SM Seaside City Cebu, which hosted the walk inside its mall premises. The Cebu Online News Press Corps is the official media partner of the event.

โ€œA Promise to Careโ€

Leading the Cebu walk was Marivic Bathan, CCPMSI President and Purple Angel Ambassador for Cebu. She welcomed participants by affirming that the walk was more than just a symbolic gathering.

โ€œBy wearing purple, we say we care, we remember, and we walk together,โ€ Bathan said. โ€œThis is a promise to raise awareness, a promise to fight myths, a promise to care with dignity and respect, and above all, a promise to never let dementia steal the value and worth of a personโ€™s life.โ€

Bathan also shared her personal journey, noting that her family has seniors in their 80s and 90s, including an aunt living with dementia. She underscored the potential of the Montessori approach to dementia care, which she first studied in Australia, and which CCPMSI now promotes alongside its education programs for children.

Medical Insights on Dementia

The walk also featured a talk by Dr. Jarungchai Anton โ€œToomโ€ Vatanagul, Dean and Associate Professor IV at Cebu Normal University and Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center College of Medicine. A neurologist and proud Montessori parent, Dr. Vatanagul emphasized the importance of understanding dementia clearly.

He explained the difference between mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia:

MCI is an early stage of memory or cognitive loss, but individuals can still perform daily activities.

Dementia is diagnosed when memory or cognitive decline interferes with everyday living, such as dressing, bathing, or using a phone.

โ€œMere forgetfulness does not always equate to dementia,โ€ he clarified. โ€œIn dementia, it is often the recent memory that is affected. People may forget todayโ€™s events but still recall songs by Karen Carpenter or Frank Sinatra.โ€

Using examples such as Bruce Willis (frontotemporal dementia), Robin Williams (Lewy Body Disease), and Ronald Reagan (Alzheimerโ€™s Disease), Dr. Vatanagul emphasized that dementia can affect anyone โ€” regardless of age, gender, or social status.

He also highlighted the urgency of the issue: by 2030, an estimated 1.4 million Filipinos will be living with dementia, making it a pressing national health concern.

The Seniorsโ€™ Perspective

Adding to the discussion, Jocelyn Tabotabo, Regional Director of the National Commission for Senior Citizens (NCSC) Region VII, provided a broader view of the challenges facing the countryโ€™s elderly population.

She reported that as of 2024, the Philippines has over 12 million senior citizens, projected to reach 14% of the population by 2030. Yet access to specialized care remains limited โ€” only 27.6% have access to geriatric services, and Cebu City has just three geriatricians.

Other sobering statistics include:

57% of seniors live with physical disabilities

30% experience depression

10% suffer from neglect or abuse

โ€œThese are rising cases,โ€ Tabotabo warned, stressing the importance of stronger support systems.

She outlined NCSCโ€™s key programs, which include wellness, health, emergency, and livelihood services, with dementia prevention and control now among its priorities. The Commission is also working with local governments to establish Senior Citizens Community Care Centers, which will provide geriatric assessments, immunization programs for flu and pneumonia, and other essential services. Region VII already has four such centers in operation.

Walking Together

The Cebu walk drew participants from all walks of life โ€” leaders, doctors, caregivers, youth, families, and seniors. International guests included Mr. Nobuyoshi Wake and Hiroshi Kaihata from Japan, operators of Montessori care homes in Okayama, who joined to witness Cebuโ€™s commitment. Noemi Carmack, Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) USA-trained, experienced, and American Montessori Society (AMS) instructor, with her husband also joined the walk.

IDCA President & Head of St. Luke's Medical Center's Memory Center, Dr. Jacqueline Dominguez, Purple Angel Southeast Asia Operations Head, Jiil Arsenal, and INDAK Program Co-Founder, Jaypee Decena, flew in from Manila after the morning walk at UP Diliman. IDCA-Dumaguete Head, Dr. Justine Iway, joined the panel discussion.

As the sea of purple moved through the SM Seaside premises, the message of unity was clear. Bathanโ€™s call resonated with the crowd:

โ€œAre you ready to walk for hope? Are you ready to walk for compassion? Are you ready to walk for dignity? Then let us walk with courage. Let us walk with purpose, and let us walk togetherโ€”because every step we take today is a step closer to a world where no one faces dementia alone.โ€

Cebuโ€™s participation in this worldwide campaign affirmed a shared belief: dementia may touch lives, but it will never diminish them. Through awareness, compassion, and innovation, communities can ensure that every person living with dementia is treated with dignity, respect, and love.

The Tubรด Cebu Art Fair 2025 closed its eighth edition after three successful days of activity that reaffirmed why it has become one of the regionโ€™s most awaited gatherings.

From August 29 to 31, the Ayala Center Cebu transformed into a meeting ground for artists, collectors, students, and everyday art enthusiasts, all participating in conversations and experiences centered on this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œProvenance.โ€

A special collection of works by Martino Abellana, the Dean of Cebuano Painters, anchored the event, reminding audiences of the legacies that shape contemporary art in Cebu.

The August 29 opening featured the book launch of โ€œSi Jimsky ug ang Tanghaga sa Balay sa Balay sa Agtaโ€ by Josua Cabrera, followed by his talk โ€œTiaw, Tiawtiaw sa Handurawang Naglatagaw.โ€

The unveiling of the Image of the Fair introduced audiences to Jonathan Abellana, noted for his portrayals of rural life; Khriss Bajade, whose practice delves into introspection and narrative; Gabi Nazareno, a Boholana printmaker and multidisciplinary artist engaging themes of memory, place, and feminism; and John Villoria, an architect and visual artist exploring identity through religion, history, and philosophy.

On August 30, the spotlight shifted to Atua Midtown, where the street art collective Writerโ€™s Block led by Nark, Noer, and Kane, created a live mural that drew crowds and sparked a dialogue on public art.

The fair wrapped up on August 31 with Tubรด Talks, beginning with Past Forward: Retracing a Provenance of Cebuโ€™s Contemporary Art, a panel led by curator Prof. Jay Nathan Jore with Abellana, Bajade, Nazareno, and Villoria.

The day continued with the Fresh Strokes Series, which opened the floor to rising Cebuano artists. Maite Zuluaga, Subhelic, and Densen Almeda joined the first session under Prof. Raymund Fernandez, while Puny, Marianne Guinto, and Roy Ingente carried the discussion forward in the second, moderated by Prof. Palmy Pe-Tudtud.

In his opening remarks, Fair Director Allen Arvin Tan paid tribute to the community that has sustained Tubรด for nearly a decade: โ€œItโ€™s our 8th year, and weโ€™ve watched it grow from a little tiny fair to what it is today with everyoneโ€™s support. Weโ€™re so happy to put in the effort every year if you also show up to help us out together as a community.โ€

Started in 2018 with just 30 participants, Tubรด has grown into a fair that thrives on accessibility and direct engagement. Artists sell their work without galleries standing in between, allowing buyers to connect straight with the creators. Proceeds are channeled back into the Arts Council of Cebuโ€™s education programs, ensuring that the fair leaves a mark beyond its exhibition halls.

As Tan reminded the crowd, โ€œWe hope that you contribute to the arts economy of Cebu by buying a piece, no matter how small. Even if itโ€™s just a sticker or postcard, it means a lot to the artists. It validates their art. It gives them a reason to continue and gives them a chance to make a living from their talent.โ€

This yearโ€™s event reached wider audiences with the help of media partners Agimat, Adobo Magazine, Keetaph, Art+ Magazine, MYTV, Cebu Daily News Digital, and PRWorks, Inc.

Tubรด 2025 showed once again that art is not only about objects on display but also about relationships, memory, and exchange. It is about bringing people together to honor what has been built and to imagine what comes next.

The World Walks Against Dementia (WWAD) at SM Seaside City Cebu was a remarkable success, uniting communities in a global movement that spanned 46 countries. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’œ

Teacher Marivic Bathan, founder of Children's Paradise Montessori School (CPMS), stood at the forefront of this meaningful advocacy, joining thousands of participants in raising awareness, promoting inclusion, and showing support for individuals and families affected by dementia.

The eventโ€™s success reflects not only the strength of the advocacy but also the power of collaboration between schools, organizations, and institutions working together for a common cause. Truly, the WWAD at SM Seaside City Cebu proved that when communities walk hand in hand, change begins to happen.
