Today’s Verse:
O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is great power to redeem. It is he who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities. - Psalm 130:7-8

Hope is a powerful concept isn’t it? Sometimes it may seem as if hope is nowhere to be found, but actually it is everywhere. Its effects may not be overly present in your current situation, but if you look hard enough you will find something worth hoping for. The worshippers in this Psalm placed their hope in God's redeeming love. There are other ways that we can find hope, but God’s redeeming love is one of the most powerful weapons we can hold as believers. In many ways, we cannot have faith if we aren’t placing our hope in something bigger than ourselves. Make the choice to hope in the LORD and believe in God’s love today. - Commentary by Matthew J. Elliott🌿

Today's Verse:
Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She answered, “Your servant has nothing in the house, except a jar of oil.” He said, “Go outside, borrow vessels from all your neighbors, empty vessels and not just a few.” - 2 Kings 4:2-3

In biblical times, failure to pay your debts was usually met with harsh consequences. In this passage, it meant a widow’s children were going to be sold into slavery. To solve this, God used a humble jar of oil to rescue her. That jar kept pouring oil until all of the vessels were full and the widow was able to pay her debt. God is our provider, and He sometimes uses the lowliest and most unexpected things in life to help us. I have a friend who lost his job due to the pandemic, and he had no savings. All he had was a worn-out bicycle, and it turned out to be his version of the widow’s jar of oil. He repaired the bike and began doing errands and deliveries for others. He did not earn much, but it was enough for him to get by. When all seems lost, remember there is always hope in the Lord. Turn to Him, pray, ask for wisdom, and He will show that sometimes you do not need to look far for help. - Commentary by Mark Natividad🌿

Today's Verse:
Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead. - Philippians 3:13

During my entire time in college, I never dated anyone because just after high school, my ex-girlfriend dumped me for another. It devastated me, and I lost my confidence. It made me overly wary, so I shut my feelings down and avoided any possible relationships. The past seems nice to visit, but I discovered that it’s never a good place to dwell. It took a while for me to realize that as believers, we should not only forgive but also leave the past behind us. It is never easy, but it is also not impossible. Apostle Paul did many wicked things against the early church before his conversion. However, he was able to forgive himself not by his might but by the grace of God. If you find it difficult to get over the past or cannot forgive, lift them up to the Lord. You might not see the big picture now, but He knows what lies ahead for you. - Commentary by Mark Natividad🌿

Today’s Verse:
But he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death-even death on a cross. - Philippians 2: 7-8

Our God did not come to earth as a King. He came as humbly as He could. He came as a baby with nothing and built His life on service, further humbling Himself. Can you imagine how Jesus humbled himself to the point of death? If God asked for sacrifice from you, would you be obedient? Some of us have trouble accepting that we don't get into our preferred college, that job we want, the house we want, etc. What are these things in light of eternity? The Bible tells us that our current sufferings are not worth comparing to the promise of eternity and the glory we will see. Jesus saw the glory in store for us. Follow His lead and humble yourself by serving the Lord. - Commentary by Kristina Taylor🌿

Today’s Verse:
Have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? - James 2:4

In society, the wealthy are often held in higher esteem than those in poverty. However, Jesus was never partial or judgemental towards those who surrounded him. Some of His Disciples were tax collectors and fishermen, and others were in positions of authority such as the Centurion. Not once did He allow social standing to faze Him and direct His actions. So why do we? Following Jesus’ example, we need to put aside our own preconceptions and embrace each other as brothers and sisters. In the sight of God, we are all equal! When He began to form us in our mother’s womb, He did not create some of us better than others, and neither should we make these distinctions. Worldly riches are temporary and we cannot take them with us when we die. So why should they govern how we act towards our sisters or brothers? We are all unique in our design, with different paths to tread. Let us clothe ourselves with garments of kindness, seeing every individual around us as a child of our Father! - Commentary by Etohan Akpan🌿

Today’s Verse :
You have seen, O Lord: do not be Silent! O Lord, do not be far from me! Wake up! Bestir yourself for my defense, for my cause, my God and my Lord. – Psalm 35:22-23

Have you ever felt like David when he prayed this Psalm? It is not an easy spot to be in, is it? Sometimes it just seems as though no one cares about what is going on in your life and that God is simply silent. But here is the reality, God is not silent. He is weeping with you in your moments of sorrow. He is at your side in times of hardship, and He is comforting you in your moments of pain. He carries us all through our most difficult times and gives us strength so that we may carry on. You may not see it now, but when you do, you will be amazed at how God has been working in your life all along. - Commentary by Matthew J. Elliott🌿

Today’s Verse:
Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than them? - Matthew 6: 26

Our world has so many distractions that can cause us to worry. The Lord cares for the sparrows, but we are worth more. We are made in His image, and He knows us intimately. “And even the hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows,” (Matthew 10: 30-31). Money, jobs, college, and family are some things that can distract us and take a lot of our energy if we rely on our will instead of trusting in God’s will and plan. We become anxious, worrisome, and take our dreams back out of God’s hands because we think we can handle it better than He. God has the best plan, “God understands the way to it, and He knows its place,” (Job 28:23). He understands You the best, and He knows the absolute best way to get you to where you need to be. - Commentary by Kristina Taylor🌿

Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. – Romans 14:19

Have you ever wondered why the word peace is so important in our faith? Truthfully, the answer is quite simple. As we live our lives, we hear things like, “We need world peace” or “Let us come together in the name of peace.” The reality is that while those things are important to think about, there is a deeper meaning to the word. Peace is the absence of war, and the ultimate war is all around us. We don’t often like to admit this, but it’s there, and every day that spiritual battle rages on. However, if we pursue peace in our lives and we work to build ourselves up in Christ His protection and direction will be there to help guide us. - Commentary by Matthew J. Elliott🌿

Everybody has unique gifts given by God and it is our task to find out what those gifts are and to use them for the glory of God. It doesn’t matter if our role seems small, for every role given by God is irreplaceable. The brain is the most important part of the human body, but what would the brain do without the rest of the body? It would be useless. So, we are all valuable in the eyes of God, and not only that - we are all parts of one body. We need each other and we are incomplete without each other. - Commentary by Irina Radosavljevic🌿

Today's Verse:
Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and have heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. - Philippians 4:8-9

The human mind is complicated and difficult to understand. However, we don’t need a doctorate to know that if we feed our minds junk, nothing good will come from it for it will only produce junk thoughts and actions. So, instead of engaging in idle words, gossip, dwelling in unforgiveness, we should diligently be careful with what we introduce to our minds and have a steady input of true, noble, honorable, pure, commendable, and pleasing thoughts. - Commentary by Mark Natividad🌿
