The NAMMAT exam originally set on October 25, 2025, at UC-METC has been postponed until further notice, according to the latest announcement from the administration.

The National Merchant Marine Aptitude Test is a standardized exam in the Philippines required for admission to maritime programs like Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE). The test assesses a student's academic proficiency in subjects like English, Mathematics, and Science, as well as their personal and interpersonal aptitudes for seafaring.

LOOK: Two outstanding graduates of the University of Cebu (UC) were recently honored for their stellar performance in the Naval Architects and Marine Engineers Licensure Examination, receiving generous cash gifts from UC Chairman Atty. Augusto W. Go.

Mikhail Josef Genovaña, who ranked Top 1, and Jufil John Ramos, who placed Top 2, were the recipients of the recognition. The ceremony was also attended by key university officials including Engr. Greg Belongilot, Dean of the College of Engineering (COE), Ms. Jellie Agostillo, OIC-Program Chair for Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME), and Dr. Yolanda C. Sayson, Vice Chancellor for Academics.

The incentive aims to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of UC’s top-performing graduates, and to inspire current and future students to strive for excellence in their respective fields.

BREAKING: A magnitude 6.0 earthquake jolted parts of Cebu and nearby provinces at 1:06 AM on October 13, 2025, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The quake’s epicenter was recorded at 10.92°N, 123.95°E, approximately 14 kilometers south 13° west of the City of Bogo, Cebu, with a depth of 10 kilometers. Instrumental intensities were reported at Intensity V in Villaba, Leyte, and Intensity IV in several areas including Danao, Asturias, Argao City, Talisay, and Cebu City (Cebu); Isabel, Hilongos, Ormoc City, and Abuyog (Leyte); and Hinunangan, Southern Leyte. As of this posting, no tsunami warning has been issued, but residents are urged to remain vigilant for possible aftershocks and follow updates from PHIVOLCS-DOST for official advisories.

𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: 𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘 𝟳.𝟲 𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗛𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗗𝗔𝗩𝗔𝗢 𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗟

A major Magnitude 7.6 earthquake strikes off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental this morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST).

The tremor was recorded at 9:43 AM, October 10, 2025, with a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located 62 km South 77° East of Manay, Davao Oriental (07.09°N, 127.09°E).

PHIVOLCS is currently assessing the data. Residents in the region are advised to immediately execute Duck, Cover, and Hold, and remain vigilant for strong aftershocks. Given the magnitude and offshore location, official warnings for potential Tsunami Advisories are highly anticipated.

UCnians, Kumusta?

After the 6.9 magnitude eathquake, we know a lot of you are shaken not just physically— but emotionally as well. This isn't just about the buildings and classrooms, but also lives and families and well being. So we'd like to take a breather and ask—How are you really doing?

Whether you are safe at home, displaced, or still anxious, whatever you are feeling right now is valid. Remember that it's okay to feel scared, lean to each other and cry, it's all okay to feel. In calamities like this, reminds us how fragile life is, but also how strong we are to stand together.

In University of Cebu, UCnians aren't just classmates and teachers, we are a community, a family. Let's continue to check on one another, and pray to those who are affected. And to everyone who is still worried, may this message remind you that you are not alone. Stay safe and stay hopeful, UCnians!
