This is the famous line of many maritime students every morning. They wake up before sunrise, prepare their uniform, and leave home with confidence, thinking they have plenty of time before class starts. Everything seems perfectโ€”until they meet the true captain of the road: traffic.

As soon as the student boards a jeepney, the journey becomes an adventure. โ€œPara! Para! Para!โ€ can be heard every few minutes as passengers get on and off. The jeep stops almost everywhere, and what was supposed to be a quick trip slowly turns into a long voyage. The student keeps checking the time, hoping the traffic will magically disappear. Unfortunately, traffic in Cebu has its own plans.

After what feels like forever, a message suddenly appears on the phone: โ€œBro, asa naka?โ€ That simple question can instantly raise a student's blood pressure. Panic starts to kick in. The student quickly replies with an excuse while staring out the window, wishing the jeep could transform into a speedboat. Sadly, even future seafarers cannot sail through traffic.

Two hours later, the student finally arrives at school. The instructor is already in class, lessons have started, and everyone is seated. Standing outside the classroom, the student can only think, โ€œKanus-a man ko makaabot ani oy?โ€ It is both frustrating and funny because despite leaving home so early, they still end up late.

This comic reflects the reality of many maritime students. It shows their dedication, patience, and determination to pursue their education despite daily challenges. While traffic may test their endurance, they continue moving forward because they know every sacrifice brings them closer to their dream of becoming successful maritime professionals.

Funny how life works. While we're busy chasing our dreams at sea, we sometimes find someone who makes the journey feel lighter. Someone who understands the sleepless nights, the pressure, and the sacrificesโ€”because they're walking the same path too.

Among crowded hallways, endless quizzes, departmental exams, and exhausting preparations for life at sea, two hearts unexpectedly found each other. What started as simple conversations slowly became the safest part of every day. There was comfort in knowing that someone understood every struggle without needing an explanation.

He became more than just a classmate. More than a friend.

He became the person who made difficult days bearable. The one whose messages could calm a stormy mind. The one worth waiting for after a long day of classes and responsibilities. In a future filled with uncertainty, he felt like the only thing that made sense.

There was something beautiful about loving another marino. Both understood the sacrifices required by the profession. Both knew what it meant to chase opportunities, leave comfort behind, and prepare for a life far away from home. They shared the same dreams, the same fears, and the same horizon.

For a moment, it felt as if the journey would always be together.

But not every ship that sails side by side reaches the same port.

Time moved forward. Dreams grew bigger. Priorities changed. And somewhere between chasing the future and surviving reality, the distance between them quietly appeared. The hardest part was never the goodbye. It was watching the person who once felt like home become happy in a life where they no longer belonged.

Yet even after the waves settled, the memories remained. The laughter under the rain. The late-night talks. The silent promises. The feeling of having someone who understood every part of the journey.

Because sometimes, love is not measured by how long two people stay together. Sometimes, it is measured by how deeply one person changes another.

And maybe that's why the saying feels true:

Ang marino ay para sa marino.

Not because every love story lasts forever, but because no one understands a marino's heart better than another marino who once sailed beside it.

Funny how life works. The person you expected never showed up, but the exam schedule arrived right on time.

For BS Marine Transportation and BS Marine Engineering students, this is your reminder that some journeys are meant to move forward, not backward. Trade the overthinking for reviewing, the waiting for preparation, and the "what ifs" for passing scores.

The bridge and engine room won't ask who broke your heartโ€”only how well you know your lessons. Good luck, future officers.
