The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) officially kicked off its 25th season with a grand opening ceremony yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum. The event featured performances by talented individuals and groups from various schools, culminating in the crowning of Miss CESAFI 2025.

For years, CESAFI has been a platform for molding student-athletes and fostering both fierce competition and camaraderie among its member schools. This season promises to deliver the same intensity and excitement, continuing to strengthen the bonds between athletes from different schools.

The opening program also celebrated the winners of previous cultural events, who returned to the stage to the cheers of an enthusiastic audience. Performances included song numbers by Justine Wayne Miaga and Melchin Cabaรฑero, as well as dance performances from Mitchloni Dianauanao, Rondre Yan Rodriguez, Trixie Pearl Dicdican, and John Lloyd Leyson. The San Carlos Dance Troupe brought the house down with a high-energy hip-hop routine, while the University of the Visayas Dance Troupe impressed with a contemporary number. A collaborative performance from the UC Banilad Campus, UC Pardo Movers, and the UC Cheer Dance Troupe marked the opening of the ceremony.

The event also featured the highly anticipated search for Miss CESAFI 2025. Contestants from various schools showcased their elegance and grace, vying for this prestigious title. After careful deliberation by the judges, Pavitas Kaur from Cebu Doctorsโ€™ University was crowned Miss CESAFI for the high school division, while Stefanie Przewodnik from the University of San Carlos took home the title for the college division.

By the end of the ceremony, the energy levels were through the roof, setting the stage for an action-packed season ahead. With the bar set high, excitement is building for the upcoming events of CESAFI Season 25.

CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES โ€“ The University of Cebu (UC) is taking a major leap forward in maritime education with a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony with South Korea's Pukyong National University (PKNU). The ceremony, held at the UC-Maritime Education and Training Center (UC-METC), seals a partnership that is a major component of PKNU's Regional Innovation System & Education (RISE) project, a major initiative designed to connect universities with local industries to drive innovation and economic development.

This signed agreement establishes a long-term partnership focused on academic collaboration, research, and exchange programs, which is poised to elevate the global competitiveness of UC's maritime graduates.

The partnership's main objective is to foster cooperation through joint research, student and faculty exchanges, internship opportunities, and the co-development of academic curricula. The MOU signing signifies an agreement from both universities to share knowledge and resources, ensuring that students are prepared for the evolving demands of the global maritime industry.

Known figures from the University of Cebu are in attendance, including Atty. Manuel Elijah Sarausad, Executive Vice Chancellor, Capt. Gerry D. Enjambre, OIC-Campus Director of UC-METC, C/M Guillermo Diluvio, Assistant OIC Campus Director, Engr. Among those present are PKNU's Chief of Research Support Division, Kim Chan Jung and Vice President Ha Myung Shin. Also participating in the event are key leaders from PKNU's network of industry partners, accentuating the strong tie between academia and industry in this collaboration. The presidents and CEOs of various companies, including Lee Jung Hwan of KOSEC/ BUEA, Ko Dung Han of HANA TECH, Kim Kyeon B**g of KOREA SHIP ENGINEERING SERVICES CO., LTD, Gam Lee Sang of G-TECH CO., LTD Lee Young Hun of YTTTECH, Lee Jae Ik of TRANS GAS SOLUTION, Park Hyoung Kyu of Kosmo, and Nam-gu District in Busan City Mayor Oh Eun Taek, together with major research institutions and companies in Busan such as Research Institute of Medium & Small, Kostec, and Dongyan Engineering Co., LTD, are present as well to witness the signing, emphasizing the real-world impact of this academic alliance.

UC's NAME department has consistently been a top producer of licensed naval architects in the Philippines, with its graduates frequently securing top spots in national board exams. This new international linkage with PKNU strengthens the department's reputation and provides its students with an even wider platform for academic and professional growth.

The collaboration is another badge to recognize UC's dedication to providing a world-class education that extends beyond national borders.
