Before “regional music” became an industry buzzword, DiCE & K9 had already forced the country to pay attention to Cebu.

When “Itsumo” exploded in 2004, it wasn’t just another hit—it was proof that a Bisaya act could dominate national radio, MYX, and MTV Philippines without coming from Manila. The Japanese hook, unmistakable flow, and Cebu-bred identity turned the record into one of the most recognizable Filipino hip-hop songs of its generation. Years later, Billboard Philippines would describe them as pioneers who helped bring Cebuano hip-hop into the mainstream.

Their legacy extends beyond charts. DiCE & K9 became the first—and still the only—Filipino hip-hop group to receive the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ Ani ng Dangal award, recognizing artists who brought Philippine culture to the international stage. They also earned an MTV Asia Awards nomination and international recognition through the AVIMA awards, achievements that helped validate Bisaya hip-hop long before streaming platforms made regional music more accessible.
