It has been quiet on this page for a couple of months now. To be completely honest, stepping away wasn't entirely planned, but sometimes life simply demands your full presence right where your feet are. And lately, looking at the bigger picture, it feels like the world itself is shifting.
It is hard to talk about personal growth or taking charge of our days when the environment around us feels so profoundly fragile. Over the last few weeks, the weight of what is happening across the country has been heavy on all of us. The powerful earthquake that devastated General Santos and shook parts of Cebu, the terrifying unpredictability of continuous tremors in Luzon, and the deeply heartbreaking tragedy at a high school in Tacloban.
When events like these hit one after another, a collective anxiety settles in. It triggers a very raw, human feeling of helplessness. How do you confidently plan for tomorrow when the literal earth beneath you is unpredictable? How do you focus on your individual goals when communities are grieving?
This is exactly why re-opening the conversation about controlling our own lives matters so much right now.
When external realities shake us, it forces us to look at the true boundaries of our personal power. We cannot stop the fault lines from moving. We cannot control the actions of others, predict the future, or alter the headlines that will drop tomorrow morning.
But if we let the weight of everything we cannot change paralyze us, we surrender the small, vital spaces where we actually do have power.
Control, in its truest sense, isn't about dominating the universe or pretending everything is fine. It is about narrowing your lens. It is deciding how you react when the unexpected happens. It is choosing where to direct your limited energy, how to protect your mental well-being, and how to show up as a pillar of strength for the people right in front of you. It is building an internal anchor so strong that even when the outside world is chaotic, your immediate environment remains stable.
We are navigating a heavy season, but we do not have to navigate it blindly.
If you have been feeling overwhelmed, distracted, or disconnected lately, give yourself some grace. You don't have to figure out the grand plan for the rest of the year today. Just start with the choices right in front of you.
Let's take it one day, and one conscious choice, at a time.
