This is a great way to start for the newly elected Mayor of Cebu City, Nestor Archival. His administration’s immediate attention to crucial public safety infrastructure like fire hydrants is both commendable and timely. As someone who has long advocated for this, I believe that the proper maintenance, installation, and accessibility of fire hydrants in every barangay is not just a matter of public service — it’s a matter of saving lives and protecting our communities.
When I was running for political office, ensuring the functionality and availability of fire hydrants per barangay was one of my key priorities. Fire emergencies can happen without warning, and in those critical moments, having a nearby and operational fire hydrant can mean the difference between a minor incident and a major disaster.
Every barangay should be equipped with strategically placed, regularly inspected, and fully operational fire hydrants. This is especially important in densely populated or fire-prone areas where response time is crucial. More than just installation, we must ensure proper coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), local water districts, and barangay officials to maintain and monitor these units.
𝗠𝗖𝗪𝗗 𝗣𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗚𝗞𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗔𝗡 𝗞𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗛𝗜𝗡 𝗦𝗔 𝗞𝗔𝗛𝗜𝗠𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗔 𝗠𝗚𝗔 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘 𝗛𝗬𝗗𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗧
Pakigkitaan ni Mayor-elect Nestor Archival ang mga tinugyanan sa Metro Cebu Water District kabahin sa gikusgon sa tubig nga mogawas sa mga fire hydrant sa dakbayan sa Sugbo.
Kini human iyang nahibaw-an ang mga suliran kabahin sa mga fire hydrant atol sa tigom karong adlawa, Hunyo 10, 2025, sa Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC).
Gisugyot ni Mayor-elect Nestor Archival atol sa maong tigom nga bantayan sa MCWD ang kada fire hydrants dinhi sa siyudad.
Sumala sa MCWD, sa 392 ka mga fire hydrant sa dakbayan, 50 niini mao ra ang naay meter.
“You need to put meter. Kay you cannot control what you do not know,” ingon niya atol sa tigom.
Usa sa hatagan unya og pagtagad sa administrasyon ni Mayor-elect Archival mao ang kahimtang sa tubig dinhi sa dakbayan sa Sugbo.
Matud niya, nagkinahanglan ang siyudad og 500 milyones ka litrong tubig matag adlaw; apan subay sa iyang nasayran, ang makahatag lang og 275 milyones litros ngadto sa 300 milyones litros.
“Out of 300 million liters a day, ang mawagtang sa MC is 100 million liters a day. Kung imo ning i-convert into cubic (meters)…we’re losing 6.5 million a day. Why? Because we’re actually buying water from the supplier at P65 per cubic (meter),” ingon ni Mayor-elect Archival.
“Mao ra nay akong punto nga gipaabot ninyo—nga ang tubig nga atong gisuyop kita ray nagbayad. And in the future di sila (MCWD) makakuha og baratong tubig ana magka-problema gyud ta,” dugang niya.
Laing niyang gisulti ang kabahin sa mga nausik nga tubig tungod sa illegal tapping, maong giingon niya nga pangitaan dayon og kasulbaran ang depektoso nga mga fire hydrant ug ang kawat sa tubig.
