ALUMNUS MSU SULTAN MG CLUB DIRECTOR TEACHES ARCHERY IN CAPITOL CENTER, CEBU CITY

14 April 2024, Sunday -- The Master Guides and Aspirants of Capitol Center MG Club took to the field in and around SM Seaside in Cebu City for the performance of the physical and demonstrative requirements to earn the Honors for Archery, Bowling, and Ice-skating.

These honors are offered as part of their year-long training in the church-based Pathfinder and Master Guide trainings offered by the club in partnership with the church, the school, and the leadership of the Conference.

Pathfinder honors are offered by the worldwide club of the church with the goal of cultivating a fun and exciting experience for the youth. As a tool for ministry, honors are also a way to lead people to Christ. It is designed to "assist the person in his/her development as a well-rounded Christian by directly affecting the social, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of life [and] direct the person to a deeper love of the Creator and should increase one’s interest in committing their life in service to God and to the community."

Meant to introduce and teach subjects to the future and current MGs of the church, the honor requirements were complied following the latest edition of the Honors Book and the Club Ministries website maintained by the General Conference Youth Department of Seventh-day Adventists.

"This is a excellent opportunity for the MGs and aspirants to learn because not all the clubs have the facility for the earning of these honors, and now our current and future youth leaders of the church can in turn teach these honors to others", says Archery Instructor MG Al Jay T. Mejos (PLA) as he believes that "once a Master Guide, always a Master Guide." He took archery as a P.E. subject while studying in UP Diliman. He finished BSBA Business Economics in 2017, cm laude, and received the prestigious University Student Leadership Award (USLA). Prior to coming to Cebu for scholarship in graduate studies, he worked as a Presidential Management Staff of MSU.

Capitol Center SDA Church is the biggest, if not one of the biggest, central church in metropolitan Cebu. It has an SDA elementary school and a Master Guide Club as well as numerous other ministries in its Youth Department.

Interested persons who wish to join future activities of the MG Club or attend the services of Capitol Center SDA Church may reach Church Pastor Edgar Villegas Bojos or Assistant Pastor Orval Talledo Bacolod, or visit us during our church services.

So I was at the lobby of a popular hotel in Cebu City when I noticed a familiar title amidst the books on display for Christmas.

Indeed, there is no Nativity without Jesus' birth. His life is the greatest Christmas gift the world has ever got. He is the original Christmas gift, the true essence of giving His life that we all may live.

"Nature and revelation alike testify God's love for man." Step closer to Him each day.

BIBLE QUR’AN STUDIES CELEBRATES 4TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY THROUGH A FORUM IN MANTICAO CENTRAL SDA CHURCH

True to its mission, the Bible Qur’an Studies celebrated its 4th year anniversary through a Forum held in Manticao Central Church, Misamis Oriental on November 12-14, 2017. The BQS is a conference-recognized supporting student ministry of Seventh-day Adventist students and professionals from Mindanao State University in the Islamic City of Marawi and in other parts of the Philippines.

With sponsorships by Stephen Dickie of the Adventist Muslim Relations of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Atty. Ronald Magallano of the Advent Professionals Ministry and the leadership of the Seventh-day Adventists in Manticao District to name a few, the BQS led the big church in its worship from Friday vespers until Sabbath sunset. The group also hosted a recreational swimming and bonding come Sunday morning at a nearby beach attended by more than 45 youths from MSU Marawi, MSU IIT, MSU Naawan and Manticao Central SDA Church.

The Forum which lasted the whole Sabbath from sunset to sunset, featured topics such Islam in the Bible Prophecy, Revelation 9, Allah’s Imputed Taqwah, Isaiah 60, Is the Bible Corrupt? (which address a common challenge for Muslims), The Al Fatihah, Is Allah God? (for our brethren who may not feel comfortable with the identity of God in the Islamic context), the Crucifixion of Jesus in the Qur’an and Abraham: A Leader to Mankind.

The topics were carefully selected and adapted for the brethren in Manticao with the intention of equipping all attendees with ways and manners by which Muslims may be more open in receiving us as their kin following the Abrahamic faith. Despite challenges in reception which goes along the line of being first time hearers of such messages for ministries for reaching Muslims, the long standing fear of Muslims, and apprehensions due to cultural barriers, the group is very much appreciative of help from elders, church officers’ and district pastors’ encouraging messages, reassurances and positive feedback.

Indeed, with multitude of help and counsellors there is safety (Prov. 11:4). There were numerous questions from the brothers and sisters who attended the Forum ranging from observations on the worldwide scale to the attitudes of local Mranao and Muslims in Mindanao such as: Why are Muslims are always portrayed as involved in conflict? How come they are allowed multiple wives? What is the basis of interpreting Islam and Mohammad in Revelation? among others.

The Bible Qur’an Studies shall forever be grateful to God for growing and continually sustaining His ministry through the students, faculty members and sponsors from Mindanao State University and abroad. We would like to gratefully recognize our sponsors in the person of Lorie Ann Damiles, Rhanie Agang, Christopher Caduyac, Elglane Pacaldo, Dayoc Family for with your support this Ministry continues to fulfill its mission and grow. May the Lord bless you more and may your own ministries flourish, may we all never tire in the Work of our Lord.
While the Muslim world is vastly unreached, both in the Philippines and throughout the 10/40 window, the Seventh-day Adventist Church continues to have youth and professionals working hard in spreading the Three Angels Message in fulfillment of the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19 and 20 and hasten His soon return.

SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS HELP ORGANIZE IN THE REHABILITATION AND REBUILDING PROCESS OF MARAWI CITY THROUGH TASK FORCE BANGON MARAWI

For four months now ever since the Marawi Conflict has erupted, Prof. Mary Joy Juson of MSU University Training Center has been detailed as coordinator of the National Defense Council at the Coordinating Center of Task Force Bangon Marawi in Iligan City. She receives and manages all concerns from the various government agencies, private stakeholders and international bodies. She also helps in the management of the TF meetings chaired by Department of National Defense USec. Cesar B. Yano as Executive Director of TF Bangon Marawi.

Task Force Bangon Marawi is an interdepartment government group created by President Rodrigo R. Duterte by virtue of AO #3 and mandated to coordinate the concerted efforts of the various government agencies in rebuilding and rehabilitating Marawi City.

During the same 4th TFBM Meeting, MSU University Researcher Mr. Al Jay Mejos was also present as a member of the university delegation led by MSU VP Rasid Paca representing MSU President Habib W Macaayong. Mr. Mejos is a fresh graduate of MSU who works at the Office of the University President. The premier university of the south whose main campus is situated only kilometers away from the conflict ground zero has since assisted in all the efforts of the provincial government of Lanao del Sur and the city government of Marawi by providing expert services and vital manpower as the only government institution that was never damaged or tagetted in the attacks.

NCMC AY President Farouk John Kalaw was also present during the 4th meeting of TF Bangon Marawi as part of the DAR delegation led by the DAR Region X Director Faisar Mambuay.

Many Seventh-day Adventists are part of leading the rebuilding and rehabilitation process of Marawi City as leaders, coordinators, policemen, soldiers and volunteers in helping affected persons and evacuees in fulfillment of the great commandment in Matt 22:39 "Love your neighbor as yourself".
