ICYMI:Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” Passes Away After Nearly Two Decades in a Coma
Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, better known as the “Sleeping Prince” of Saudi Arabia, passed away after nearly twenty years of comatose. He is 36 years old.
The Royal Court confirmed that Prince Al-Waleed was brought to life on Saturday at the King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he had been on life support since 2005. He had a car accident while studying at a military college in London, causing severe brain hemorrhage and leaving him in a vegetative state.
Despite his condition, he has shown slight gestures several times over the years—signs of little consciousness that give hope to his family and supporters. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, has remained faithful in caring for the son, often sharing updates with the public and requesting prayers for his recovery.
Funeral prayer will be held on Sunday, July 20, at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, following Asr prayer. A three-day mourning will be held.
Prince Al-Waleed's story touched the hearts of millions of Arabs as a symbol of a father's unparalleled hope and love. His passing closed a long and emotional chapter in the history of the Saudi royal family.
May he rest in peace.
