BIZ BOOST. When a sari-sari store owner learns how to price products for profit, or a home-based baker discovers the power of digital payments, something remarkable happens: a small business begins to dream bigger.

Across the Philippines, microbusinesses are the lifeblood of local economies. They are the neighborhood eateries, the tailoring shops, the market stalls often run by families who pour their time, savings, and heart into serving their communities. But while passion fuels these enterprises, access to the right knowledge, tools, and networks can be the difference between surviving and thriving.

From Barangay Roots to Bigger Opportunities
In partnership with BPI Direct BanKo and the DTI – Philippine Trade Training Center – Global MSME Academy (PTTC-GMEA), the program has reached 370 microbusinesses in provinces including Rizal, Cebu, Negros Occidental, Leyte, Samar, and South Cotabato.

YIELD WATCH. BPI Wealth, the asset and wealth management arm of Ayala-led Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), officially introduced the BPI Global Bond Income Fund through Bonds Beyond Borders, a multi-city roadshow held in Cebu and Davao for its Gold and Preferred clients. The events gave investors in Visayas and Mindanao an exclusive first look at this innovative fund designed to provide consistent monthly income from global fixed income markets.

The BPI Global Bond Income Fund is tailored for income-seekers who value regular payouts and stable returns, offering a moderate risk alternative by focusing solely on bonds and other fixed income securities worldwide. NUTRI NEWS. Long before “gut health” became a wellness buzzword, humans across cultures were fermenting food, not just to preserve it, but unknowingly to nourish their bodies in profound ways. From sauerkraut in Europe to kimchi in Korea, yogurt in the Middle East to kombucha in Asia, fermentation has been a quiet constant in human history.

Today, science confirms what tradition has long suggested: these tangy, complex flavors are more than culinary quirks. They’re alive with health benefits.

MUST READ: Health officials are on high alert as leptospirosis cases in Cebu climb with the rains. The Department of Health (DOH) warns that a single step into contaminated floodwater could mean days in the hospital or worse. With the habagat season far from over, the race is on to keep this silent killer at bay.

The warning is not without cause. Nationwide, from June 8 to August 14, 2025, the DOH recorded 3,752 leptospirosis cases, a sharp rise compared to previous years. At the peak in early August, hospitals were admitting nearly 200 patients a day, with major facilities like the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and East Avenue Medical Center operating at 300 – 400% over capacity.

The culprit: floodwaters contaminated with rat urine, carrying the Leptospira bacteria. Even a small cut on the skin can be an open door for infection.

WELLNESS WIRE. In line with Presidential Proclamation No. 840, which declares August 19 of every year as National Tuberculosis (TB) Day, the Department of Health (DOH) is actively promoting the campaign towards ending TB by 2030.

This year’s celebration carries the theme: “For a Nation, YOUth can ,” underscoring the vital role of young people in the fight against TB. The initiative highlights the need for sustained public awareness and the importance of effective strategies, including early detection, accurate diagnosis, preventive treatment, and high-quality TB care.

Led by the DOH, in partnership with various organizations, a Nationwide Simultaneous Active Case Finding and other health services were conducted for more than 7,000 people across 17 regions. The following services were provided free of charge: TB screening, including a chest X-ray and Tuberculin Skin Test (TST), TB confirmatory testing via sputum testing, HIV testing and counseling, and health education.

MARKET MINDSET. For decades, the gold standard of business success was simple: find a customer problem, solve it better than anyone else, and you win. That formula built empires, disrupted industries, and shaped the way we think about value creation.

But the rules are changing. In today’s hyper-connected, choice-saturated world, solving problems is no longer the differentiator it once was. The next era of business is being defined by something deeper: anticipating needs, shaping aspirations, and co-creating meaning with customers.

“Solving problems is the baseline. Shaping futures is the breakthrough.”
Problem-solving is reactive. It starts when a customer feels friction, pain, or dissatisfaction. But in an age where technology, AI, and global competition can solve most functional problems faster and cheaper, the real advantage lies in helping customers imagine and achieve what they didn’t even know they wanted.
