Your business may be making sales, but that doesnโt automatically mean you can afford to take money out whenever you want.
Start with your net profit, not your revenue. After setting aside money for taxes, debt payments, operating reserves, and reinvestment, consider paying yourself:
๐ A modest fixed monthly amount for essential personal expenses.
๐ An additional profit share only when the business is financially healthy.
As a starting point, some small-business owners use around 20% to 50% of sustainable net profit for owner compensation, but the right amount depends on your margins, cash flow, business structure, and growth plans.
For sole proprietors, personal withdrawals are generally recorded as ownerโs drawings, not salary. Keep your business and personal accounts separate, and never treat every peso in the bank as available income.
Your business should support the operation, its future, and the founder building it.
