The Order of the Most Holy Redeemer, known as Redemptoristine Nuns, is a contemplative founded by Blessed Maria Celeste Crostarosa in 1731, to be a living memory of Jesus, the Redeemer in the world and the church today. The Order of the Most Holy Redeemer (O.Ss.R.), well known as Redemptoristines live in a spirit of authenthic fidelity to the inspiration of Blessed Mother Maria Celeste Crostarosa as well as to the spiritual and apostolic Alphonsian tradition. The Order was founded on May 13, 1731, Pentecost Sunday at Scala in Naples, Italy by Blessed Mother Maria Celeste Crostarosa (Beatified in June 18, 2016 in Foggia, Italy). The Order accomplishes its mission in the Church in close fellowship with the entire Redemptorist family. Redemptoristines' life is centered on prayer and contemplation. They are praying for the world especially for the poor and the most abandoned. Embracing everyone in prayer including the sick, the aged and those in need of God's mercy. Redemptoristine Nuns- Thailand begun in 2011 at Bangkok, then transferred to the Diocese of Korat under Bishop Joseph Chusak in 2015. Recently, the Thai community celebrated the 10 Years Anniversary of contemplative presence. This is the first and only contemplative nuns Order of the Diocese. The Monastery of the Most Holy Redeemer aims to be the center of prayer. We pray for Thai contemplative vocations to bloom. The monastery is accepting candidates who are interested to be Redemptoristines who will pray especially for the needs of the priests and the whole Diocese. Join the newly formed group: The AMBASSADORS FOR THAI VOCATIONS. They are the praying partners of the Sisters for contemplative vocations. As of now, there are more than 100 ambassadors in Thailand. There are two Redemptoristine communities in the Philippines. One in Cebu (Visayas) and in Legazpi, Albay (Bicol). Redemptoristine Nuns-Cebu, an autonomous monastery celebrated their 25 Years of contemplative presence last June 2, 2017. It was canonically erected on March 8, 2006. The RedNuns came to Cebu in 1992 from Legazpi community. Our Monastery in Liguori, USA send four Sisters in the Philippines in 1980 who planted the seeds of Filipina vocations. With the founding community of Legazpi, 45 Years of contemplative presence in the Philippines is more than a BLESSING (1980-2025) !!! More communities were founded all over the world...in Spain, Brazil, USA, Africa , Poland, Thailand, Australia, Ireland...soon in Indonesia. Updates:
The Federation of Our Mother of Perpetual Help (the English speaking Redemptoristines communities includes Ireland, Canada, Legazpi, Cebu, USA-New York) was established in 2024. Lucy Conway, OSsR from Ireland community was elected President/Chairman of the Federation. This is in response to Cor Orans, the new directives for contemplatives. History & Gratitude: CEBU COMMUNITY
Beginning:
The Redemptorist in the in the Vice Province of Cebu invited the Redemptoristine Nuns in Legazpi to come to Cebu and establish their contemplative presence. Rose Marie who was prioress at that time responded to the invitation of Fr. Ramon Fruto, C.SS.R., the Vice- Provincial. June 2, 1992 marked the beginning of our contemplative presence in Cebu. Mary Raphael, two postulants, with Sr. Lolita and Sr. Guia Marie and Sr. Alice travelled from Legazpi through a cargo boat named M/V Honor. At about 11 am they arrived in Cebu Sea Port. On June 7, the Feast of Pentecost, Cardinal Ricardo Vidal, and the Archbishop of the Diocese of Cebu welcomed the sisters and blessed the rented Formation house. The ICM sisters together with Fr. Ramon Fruto and some friends gathered for the house blessing. Later the sisters were able to visit Cardinal Vidal place in his Bishop residence. DOÑA RITA VILLAGE:
The first house the sisters lived in was in Dona Rita Village in Banilad. It is owned by a relative of Fr. Fruto, Nanette Avila. She became one of the first benefactors and friends of the sisters. The small community started with a very simple, joyful, and frugal life. Sometimes they only eat rice and canned sardines mixed with green papaya together with their Priest visitor Fr. Ernie Carretero, S.J., superior of Jesuits in Cebu. He became faithful friends of our Community. During their stay in Banilad, the Sisters avail the Eucharistic celebration of the Redemptorist Fathers and sometime, they go to a nearby chapel of the Pink Sisters. PLAN TO BUILD A HOUSE:
It took four years to finish the house. The Monastery, named after our Foundress, Mother Maria Celeste it stood as silent witness of God’s Divine Providence. It started from scratch and stood up to what it is now. Finally, in the year 1997, the Monastery was blessed by His Eminence, Ricardo Vidal together with our Redemptorist, religious sisters, as well as friends and benefactors. LIVING OUT OUR CHARISM: THE VIVA MEMORIA
On March 8, 2006, the Redemptoristine Nuns in Cebu had their Canonical Erection. The community has established a Regular Daily Horaruim and private prayer, in the celebration of the Eucharist, recreation and working assignments. Each sister does her duty and prayer as best she can. As the sisters pray for the Church and for the world, as they always support in their prayers all the Redemptorist. The Redemptorist has been very generous in assisting the Redemptoristine in their various needs. The community is thankful for their Sacramental and Spiritual ministries to the community. WORK AND SUSTAINANCE:
Few rooms are being reserved for those who wished to spend time in silence and retreats, taking good care of the retreatant’s accommodation. Some sisters accompany those who want to have a Guided Retreat. The remunerations in accompanying those in retreat is a big help to the financial needs of our community, while those who seek silence and recollection or retreat have been energized in their spiritual life. Soya making is also another source of income. While the income is minimal, Soya Production has helped a few out of school young men to get work and salary to support their families. The making of all occasion cards is the oldest income generating project that the sisters were doing. They also bake cupcakes and all occasion cakes. The OSSR Associates:
There have been a good number of lay women and men who are interested to be a part of the Redemptoristine Community. They used to join in the community on important occasions, and celebrations such as special feasts of the community. They spend some times in private prayer and silence in the Monastery. Some would participate in the communal prayer of the liturgy of the hours. Covid PANDEMIC CRISIS to NEW NORMAL:
During the time of pandemic, life seems difficult to deal with the new system in the many aspects of everyday living. It affects globally not only lifestyle, businesses and financial status as well. However, the time of New Normal challenges our contemplative call in an intense upgraded level of spirituality, remain to be faithful in our charism in joy, in faith and in living hope and radiates the love of God from our community to yours...and say,
“WITH JESUS, THERE IS PLENTIFUL REDEMPTION.”
