On November 24, 2019, 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮’𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 (𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝟭𝟵𝟮𝟭) was beautifully restored and re-inaugurated. The bridge, which links Binondo to Intramuros, was returned to its neoclassical and Beaux-Arts glory, featuring rebuilt ornate lamp posts inspired by 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀’ 𝗣𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗜𝗜 and the reinstallation of three “𝗟𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗮” statues that survived wars and neglect.🌉✨

More than just a bridge, this restoration project became a powerful symbol of Manila’s promise to blend historical preservation with urban revitalization, proving that even amid modern chaos, we can choose to honor the stories of our past while building pathways for the future.

In celebration of the 6th Anniversary of the Presidency of Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, the University of Northern Philippines College of Architecture held a series of extension and project monitoring activities on November 6, 2025, under the theme “A Legacy of Service: UNP College of Architecture’s Impact and Progress Monitoring.”

The activity showcased the College’s continuing commitment to community involvement, heritage preservation, and architectural excellence through simultaneous field engagements across Ilocos Sur. Three faculty teams were deployed to different project sites to assess and monitor architectural initiatives supported by the College.

Team A, led by Engr. Maila P. Ragasa and Ar. Julius U. Artates, visited the St. Catherine de Alexandria Church in Santa Catalina. Their team, composed of faculty specialists and student representatives from CAAC, UAPSA, and JPIEP, conducted site monitoring and documentation focusing on architectural conservation and design improvements.

Team B, headed by Ar. Mon-Cres A. Toje, and Ar./EnP Ludivina A. Lozano, visited the Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan City. The group assessed ongoing architectural projects and explored opportunities to strengthen design innovation aligned with the College’s extension goals.

Meanwhile, Team C, led by Dr. Fatima Nicetas R. Alonzo, and Ar. Reymund P. Quevpo, conducted the “Assessing the Past, Preserving the Future: Bantay Church Needs Assessment” at the Parish of Saint Augustine of Hippo in Bantay. The initiative aimed to evaluate the preservation needs of the historic church and promote sustainable heritage conservation practices.

The collaborative effort of the College of Architecture through these activities reflects the University’s mission of extending academic expertise beyond the campus, nurturing service-oriented professionals, and contributing to the preservation of Ilocano cultural and architectural heritage.
