PUBLIC WARNING: DepEd Alerts Public on Fake AI Video About Cash Assistance

July 17, 2025 – The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued a public warning via its official page regarding a circulating AI-generated video falsely claiming that learners can receive educational cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

According to DepEd's advisory, the misleading video was posted by a page named Education News Update. The AI-generated content falsely states that students can receive financial aid ranging from ₱2,000 to ₱6,000. The video also misuses the official logos of both DepEd and DSWD, giving it a false appearance of legitimacy.

Within just one hour of posting, the video had already gained traction—garnering 41 reactions, 20 comments, and 15 shares. Many of the comments came from concerned parents hoping to access financial support, highlighting the emotional impact and potential harm of such misinformation.

DepEd strongly clarified that the claims in the video are entirely false. They urge the public not to click on any links provided in the video’s description, as these may lead to scams or phishing attempts. Instead, the public is advised to ignore the content and follow only verified sources such as official government websites and social media pages for accurate updates.

The rise of AI-generated content has made it easier for misinformation to spread rapidly. Always be cautious and double-check information, especially when it involves financial programs or government aid.

HOT TOPIC: DICT Secretary Aguda Sends Letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Over Fake News

July 15, 2025 – Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Henry Aguda has sent a formal letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressing the Philippine government's concerns over the proliferation of fake news and derogatory posts targeting government officials.

The letter highlights troubling instances of misinformation, including a fabricated claim about a lockdown due to MPOX, alongside other harmful and false narratives circulating on Meta’s platforms. According to the DICT's official website, the department has been working closely with Meta Philippines, providing detailed reports and evidence in efforts to have such content removed. However, despite these efforts, fake news and derogatory content continue to spread, posing potential risks to national security and online safety.

Secretary Aguda emphasized that the spread of false information online constitutes a serious threat and violates the Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. He urged Meta to take stronger action against harmful content to protect the integrity of online spaces.

The public is urged to be cautious about trusting everything they encounter on social media, especially with the rise of advanced AI technologies that can easily create deepfake images and videos. People are advised to fact-check information and rely on legitimate news outlets and official government social media pages for accurate updates.
