๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜„๐˜€ | MSWD Orients Grade 9 Studs Against OSAEC ; CSAEM

To strengthen the protection of minors against rising cases of online abuse, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWD) of Cuartero launched an orientation on Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) for Grade 9 learners of Cuartero National High School on February 24, 2026, at the schoolโ€™s covered gym.

The initiative, conducted in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Cuartero and the provincial and regional offices of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), aimed to equip students with knowledge on safe online behavior in line with the provisions of Republic Act 11930. The law strengthens government efforts to identify, prevent, and penalize activities involving child sexual abuse materials and online exploitation.

School principal, Expectacion J. Lacbanes expressed support for the activity, emphasizing the need for digital safety awareness among adolescents who are increasingly exposed to online risks.

PSWDO Head Joerine C. Tan discussed the effects of OSAEC and CSAEM on children, noting that awareness and early intervention can prevent exploitation. She shared cases illustrating how minors often fall victim due to limited guidance, online curiosity, or unsafe internet habits.

A theatrical performance titled โ€œPulang Pindotโ€ by SPA Musikeros and Teatro Kabutungan dramatized situations where children unknowingly become targets of online predators. The performance showed how a single online clickโ€”symbolized in the playโ€™s titleโ€”can place a child in danger, whether through responding to suspicious messages or sharing personal information. It also highlighted scenarios where exploitation occurs within families due to poverty or coercion.

Further reinforcing the lesson, DSWD VI PDO III and RCAT-VAWC VI Secretariat member Xzyrabelle Servento explained the โ€œ4 Cโ€™sโ€ of online risks: Content, Contact, Conduct, and Contract. She emphasized how harmful materials, dangerous interactions, risky online behavior, and online scams can expose minors to exploitation. Students actively joined the discussion as she asked questions and gave out prizes to encourage participation.

The orientation concluded with reminders for students to stay vigilant online and immediately report suspicious behavior that may endanger minors.

The results highlight strong student participation and a clear mandate for the newly elected officers. As they prepare to assume their roles, the CNHS community anticipates environmental programs and activities that will strengthen awareness, responsibility, and action toward sustainability in the coming school year.

The Special Program in the Arts (SPA) of Cuartero National High School capped its monthโ€‘long celebration of National Arts Month 2026 with a culminating program featuring student performances on February 23 at the CNHS Covered Gym.

The event gathered support from SPA Coordinator Ramie Capuyan, Gina David, Abegail G. Lapating, Leader for Youth and Development Officer (LYDO); Sangguniang Bayan Member Eve Cedullo; and SB Secretary Jocelyn Mayo, whose presence highlighted the importance of arts education in the school community.

Opening the program was a production number titled โ€œAni ng Sining,โ€ performed by Grade 9 and 10 dance majors. Their contemporary routine energized the audience and formally launched the threeโ€‘part showcase.

The first segment highlighted theater arts, featuring three plays:

- โ€œTunay na Siningโ€ by Grade 8 theater majors, portraying SPA students exploring the value of different art disciplines;
- โ€œPipitlandiaโ€ by Grade 7โ€“Gamayo, a tale of a princess searching for love to heal her broken wing;
- โ€œBaryo Bunotโ€ by Grade 9 and 10 theater majors, depicting two rival villages fighting over a magical orb with a comedic twist.

The second part centered on music, starting with a piano piece by Grade 8 music major Keziah Lara. This was followed by a Flute Ensemble performing a medley of Filipino folk songs such as Sitsiritsit Alibangโ€‘bang and Leronโ€‘Leron Sinta. The atmosphere then shifted to an energetic tone as winners of the Battle of the Bands rendered โ€œMulto sa Paningin,โ€ โ€œAng Buhay Ko,โ€ and โ€œHayaan.โ€

The third segment showcased dance, featuring various genres including Philippine and international folk dances, samba, contemporary, and hipโ€‘hop.

Alongside the performances, SPA visual arts students mounted an art exhibit with interactive activities for attendees. Media arts students served as program hosts together with Cute Candelario.

To close the event, students joined a unity dance to the Makasining theme song, concluding the celebration with a message of creativity, harmony, and appreciation for the arts.

๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜„๐˜€ | I.G.N.I.T.E. Party Sweeps SSLG Elections After Running Unopposed in Most Positions

The I.G.N.I.T.E Party secured all executive positions and nearly all gradeโ€‘level representative seats in the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) elections at Cuartero National High School after running without an opposing party in all positions except the Grade 9 representative position.

Allysa P. Gelena led the partyโ€™s sweep as she clinched the presidency with 1,029 votes, followed by Annie B. Berano who earned 970 votes for Vice President. The executive board is completed by Lei Anne Immaculate L. Fajarillo as Secretary with 1,014 votes, Francheska Mae V. Aguirre as Treasurer with 1,027 votes, and Ashley Jearon F. Devesme as Auditor with 988 votes. Gabrielle Iyana M. Faunillo was elected Public Information Officer with 975 votes, while Shaira Ruby O. De Juan secured the role of Peace Officer, also with 975 votes.

In the gradeโ€‘level representative elections, only the Grade 9 position had an opposing candidate. Hilary S. Bebayo won the race with 160 votes, followed by the independent candidate Keisha Mari D. Alianza the lone challenger in the entire SSLG election with a 145 votes defeating the other IGNITE Party candidate Justine A. Dela Cruz with 84 votes only.

For Grade 8, Chrisha A. Martinez (163 votes) and Elerie Grace M. Leagogo (153 votes) were elected. In Grade 10, Kate Ashley D. Garcia topped with 169 votes, followed by Jhon Rico M. Ganzon with 140 votes. For Grade 12, Kristine Joy M. Cornepillo led with 173 votes, alongside Hannah T. Sorial who earned 151 votes.

The absence of opposition in most positions contributed to the I.G.N.I.T.E Partyโ€™s almost full slate victory, with student voters participating actively despite the limited competition.

With the winning candidates officially proclaimed, the school community looks forward to SSLG programs aimed at enhancing student engagement and strengthening student leadership at Cuartero National High School.

๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜† | In the Mouth of a Love that Never Chose Me

Everyone says high school love is harmlessโ€”just a phase, a hallway crush you grow out of and laugh about years later. Pero hindi. What I feel isnโ€™t cute. It isnโ€™t soft. It isnโ€™t the kind of love people write in yearbooks.

It began like a whisper.
A glance.
Your name brushing past my thoughts the way a match grazes a strikerโ€”small, accidental, but enough to spark. Every time I saw you in the hallway, my pulse stumbled like it was trying to escape my own chest. I told myself it was nothing. I told myself I was fine.
But my mind kept circling back to you like a moth orbiting a flame it doesnโ€™t understand.
Soon, I learned the art of pretending.

I smiled when you passed, then acted like I didnโ€™t notice.
I talked to you like you were just another classmate, even though my whole body was betraying me.

But the moment you texted backโ€”Godโ€”my day lit up like it suddenly remembered how to breathe. I waited for your messages as if they were proof I existed. I checked my phone so often it felt like prayer. And when you didnโ€™t reply, the silence felt like my fault. Like emptiness had teeth.

I didnโ€™t notice how it happened, but I began rearranging myself around you.
I joined your club even though I didnโ€™t care for it.
Laughed at your jokes even when they fell flat.
Learned your favorite songs, your favorite shows

I wasnโ€™t trying to impress you.
I was trying to become someone you could love.
And somewhere along the way, it stopped being a crush and started becoming an addiction.
When you noticed me, it felt like sunlight cracking through a stormโ€”warm, blinding, addicting. I felt high, like I could swallow the world.

But when you ignored me, the crash hurt like falling from heaven straight into concrete. I overthought everything:
Why didnโ€™t you smile today?
Why are your laughs louder with someone else?

I kept telling myself I could stop anytime.
But like the song says, love is cannibalism.
And I was already feeding myself to the idea of youโ€”one piece at a time.
What scares me most is thatโ€ฆ I still want it.
I still want you.

Even when this love makes me jealous, insecure, tired.
Even when it feels like Iโ€™m dissolving, like Iโ€™m trading pieces of myself for seconds of your attention.
Even when it hurts.

Because the moment you look at me,
the moment your name lights up my screenโ€”
I feel alive in a way nothing else has ever made me feel.

And maybe thatโ€™s the saddest part:
that sometimes pain feels worth it
if it means I get to feel something real.

If it means I get to feel ๐—ฌ๐—ข๐—จ.

๐—™๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ | Evelio Javier: The Martyr of Panay

Evelio Bellaflor Javier, also known as Evelio Javier, is a nationally recognized Filipino leader whose life and legacy are commemorated every February 11. He was born on October 31, 1942, in Hamtic, Antique, Philippines. His parents were Everardo Autajay Javier, a prosecutor, and Feliza Bellaflor, a teacher.

Evelio Javier studied Law at Ateneo de Manila University and later earned his Masterโ€™s degree at Harvard University. In 1971, at the young age of 29, he became the Governor of Antique, making him one of the youngest governors in Philippine history.

He was known for strengthening local governance and promoting cultural identity and tourism in the province. He conceptualized the Binirayan Festival, a cultural celebration in Antique that honors the provinceโ€™s history and heritage.

Javier was also a leading opposition figure against the rule of President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. He strongly advocated for democratic reforms and political fairness, especially during the 1986 snap elections.

On February 11, 1986, just days after the snap elections, Evelio Javier was assassinated at Freedom Park in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique. His death shocked the nation and became a powerful symbol of resistance against political (oppression).

Each year, every February 11, his story is retoldโ€”not to dwell on the violence of his final moments, but to honor the purpose that defined his life. Javier is remembered as a visionary leader who uplifted Antique, a cultural advocate who celebrated history, and a defender of democracy who understood that freedom requires both courage and sacrifice. Today, as the nation marks the 40th anniversary of his martyrdom, his story stands as a reminder that democracy survives not merely through laws and institutions, but through peopleโ€”ordinary citizens strengthened by extraordinary leaders. Evelio Javierโ€™s life may have ended in gunfire, but his legacy continues in every Filipino who chooses bravery over silence, truth over fear, and justice over convenience. His story is not just a chapter in history; it is a call to protect the freedom he gave his life for, a call as urgent and necessary now as it was four decades ago.
