A proposal is underway to boost the bamboo industry by implementing a new law. This law aims to attract investments in bamboo farms and industrial plants. To incentivize commercial bamboo plantations, the law includes provisions that exempt them from rental fees on government land. Furthermore, the Bamboo Industry Research and Development Center (BIRDC) will be established to collaborate with different sectors and ensure sustainable growth. The law also offers certain exemptions from permits and fees for privately-owned plantations registered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). It is believed that by supporting the bamboo industry, economic opportunities will emerge, and climate change will be lessened. Additionally, bamboo plantations will have access to financing and crop insurance choices, and provincial governments are required to develop their own bamboo industry development programs.

By Melody Mendoza Aguiba June 26, 2022The urgent passage of a law to develop the bamboo industry is seen to prop up capital influx into farms and industrial plants in line with incentives includin…

The proposed Senate Bill 605, popularly known as the "Bamboo Bill," strives to establish the Philippine Bamboo Industry Development Program, which aims to make the country's bamboo sector a thriving agriculture industry. By leveraging existing bamboo resources found throughout the islands, this bill has the potential to create one of the largest agricultural sectors in the country. It covers various aspects such as providing support for loans, facilitating credit access, boosting trade promotion, ensuring labor stability, and expanding bamboo nurseries. To kickstart the implementation, the bill will utilize existing budgets and establish a dedicated Bamboo Industry Research and Development Center. The government is advised to invest in climate smart technology as climate change continues to have a significant adverse impact on agricultural and energy sectors. It is intended that electric, solar, or non-carbon dioxide generating forms of energy will eventually replace carbon dioxide-emitting sources like industries and automobiles. The government ought to offer financial incentives to businesses that support research and development of adaptation technologies that would build climate-resistant agricultural crops. Most of these private climate initiatives would support small-scale farmers in coping with the impacts of climate change.

April 18, 2023 Multilateral financier World Bank has urged government to give incentives for private sector to invest in climate smart agriculture and renewable energy and to tap ESG bonds to finan…

In order to combat the intensifying increase in temperature in relation to global warming, nationwide bamboo planting has been legislated. Bamboo itself is intended to be utilized as a raw material for industry, creating jobs, in addition to its primary goal of reforestation to decrease the incidence of disasters and contribute to carbon sequestration. This will provide towns and barangays with opportunities for new livelihood sources while benefitting the environment.

February 22, 2023 A memorandum of agreement will be entered by the National Movement of Young Legislators Alumni Association (NMYLAA) for bamboo’s propagation on 1,500 towns nationwide as bam…

Today we will look at how bamboo is used for modern homes, charcoal as fuelwood, biomass for heating and cooking to save energy, and bamboo fiber. We have seen bamboo being used frequently for furniture, houses, tools, etc. Because bamboo can be found almost anywhere, the Philippines would benefit from new bamboo uses, particularly when applied to meet people's modern needs. Since bamboo developments could potentially generate more income for the Philippines, both the public and private sectors are looking to support research and development of new uses for bamboo.

May 2, 2023 A technology transfer program has been pursued by the Philippine Bamboo Industry Development Council (PBIDC) with private firms as Base Bahay and local government for the development of…
