A THRILLING CHASE
I had the opportunity of having two separate conversations with my close friends about career paths and vocations. The first said that heās not sure if heās on the right track. He said heās merely taking one day at a time, and that even though he tries to give his best in everything he does, he is still as confused as he has been when he entered his path six years ago. On the other hand, another has been loving almost everything in her track for almost five years now. Sheās able to recognize the opportunities to grow in her chosen career, is gifted to establish good relationship with her officemates, and undoubtedly finds fulfilment in the work she does even at the peak of exhaustion. The latter, I believe, is on a thrilling chase.
A thrilling chase is when one clearly knows where sheās going, and why sheās going there, thus, merely enjoying the obstacles that contest her path. Her intentions are clearly laid out. I believe Iām on it, and I hope you are, too. Because thereās a big difference between doing our work when we ought to do it, and doing it for the joy and pleasure of seeing it done correctly and excellently. Just as thereās a difference between reducing our possessions to be called a minimalist, and intentionally keeping only the things that we need and enjoy. Whether itās work, vocation, lifestyle, niche or something else, itās important that we keep our purpose intact. It is by doing so that we recognize the value and thrill of our chase. And if weāre not yet there, as my first friend is, it might help to clear our mind, bask in silence, then seek and confirm Godās leading. It is certain that God will reveal it in time.
I would like to end by J.K Rowlingās analogy in Harry Potterās sixth book, āBut he (Harry Potter) understood at last what Dumbledore had been trying to tell him. It was, he thought, the difference between being dragged into the arena to face a battle to the death and walking into the arena with your head held high. Some people, perhaps, would say that there was little to choose between the two ways, but Dumbledore knew ā and so do I, thought Harry, with a rush of fierce pride, and so did my parents ā that there was all the difference in the world.ā
