Get to know our third speaker for the 1st Mabini Colleges Virtual Student Congress on Media and Information Literacy!

Ms. Rosie Jane S. Mosquera is the Subject Area Lead Teacher (SALT) of the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) learning area of the University of Santo Tomas – Senior High School (UST-SHS). She is part of the pioneer batch of Thomasian educators who developed the curriculum guide, lesson plans, and instructional materials of MIL as a core subject in Grade 11 and Grade 12. As a language teacher and media enthusiast, she sees MIL as an important subject in which learning skills, literacy skills, and life skills are promoted as integral to the holistic development of Filipino learners thriving in the information age. Empowerment of students through
knowledge, information, social engagement, and critical reading of media is among her advocacies. At present, Ms. Mosquera is a board member of the Philippine Association for Media and Information Literacy (PAMIL) and is pursuing her doctorate
in English Language Studies at UST Graduate School.

Get to know our second speaker for the 1st mabini Colleges Virtual Student Congress on Media and Information Literacy!

Mr. Dun Oliver Abiera is a graduate of the International Studies program with honors in Ateneo de Davao University and Environmental Preservation and Peacebuilding program of Northern Illinois University. He founded an organization built to give opportunities and create a network for youth advocates in a wide range of advocacy in the Philippines called YABONG. Also, he is the incumbent UNESCO Youth Coordinator for Asia and the Pacific for Global Alliance for Partnerships on Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL). Currently, he is based in Mindanao to educate and empower youth leaders with the use of social media and to create sustainable development projects resolving pressing issues in the country.

Get to know our first speaker for the 1st Mabini Colleges Virtual Student Congress on Media and Information Literacy.

Mr. Arniel V. Ping is a licensed professional teacher with 21 years of teaching experience and is currently serving as the overall academic coordinator of the High School Department and concurrently coordinator of the Social Studies subject area at St. Stephen’s High School Manila.

Aside from being a full-time educator, he is also serving as the President of the Philippine Association for Media and Information Literacy (PAMIL), one of the leading organizations advocating MIL in the Philippines. He is also an alumnus of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), a premier professional exchange program of the U.S. Department of State, and was selected to participate in the project “Promoting Media Literacy Through Education” which was held in 2019 in the USA. He has served as a resource speaker, facilitator, and member of the organizing committee in numerous Media and Information Literacy seminars, workshops, and forums for educators and advocates in the Philippines.

The Media and Information Literacy (MIL) faculty together with the MIL students of Mabini Colleges Inc. High School Department invites you to the first-ever Mabini Colleges Virtual Student Congress on Media and Information Literacy on April 24, 2021 (Saturday) 1 to 4 in the afternoon via Facebook live.

It is the first-ever webinar organized and facilitated by Senior High School students in the province of Camarines Norte that aims to promote Media and Information Literacy as a skill for the youth, given the pressing issues that our society is facing in this era of digitalization and information disorder.
