A Prayer for Protection from Typhoon Uwan

Almighty God, our refuge and strength,
We lift our hearts to You in this time of need, as Typhoon Uwan approaches. We humbly ask You to keep us safe, Lord.

We pray for Your divine protection to be a shield over our homes. Secure the walls that shelter us and guard the possessions we hold dear.

Wrap Your loving arms around our families. Keep every member safe from harm, whether they are near or far. Calm their fears and grant them peace and resilience.

We pray specifically for the entire nation, the Philippines. Guide the hands of our leaders, first responders, and all those working to prepare and protect our communities. Lessen the storm's fury, minimize damage, and spare lives.

May Your comfort be with those who are afraid and Your strength uphold those who face this threat directly.

We trust in Your mercy and Your power to see us through this challenge.

God bless the Philippines.

Amen. 🙏🇵🇭

PHIVOLCS Issues Urgent Lahar Advisory for Mayon Volcano Due to Expected Torrential Rains from Typhoon Uwan

ALBAY, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) has issued an urgent Lahar Advisory for Mayon Volcano, warning that the intense to torrential rainfall expected from Typhoon Uwan could generate destructive volcanic mudflows, or lahars.

PAGASA forecasts the Bicol Region will receive up to 400 mm of rain between today, November 8, and tomorrow, November 9. This volume of water is strong enough to erode loose volcanic materials, specifically from the remnant pyroclastic deposits of the 2018 and 2023 Mayon eruptions.

PHIVOLCS strongly recommends increased vigilance and pre-emptive evacuation in pre-determined lahar zones, particularly those along and downstream of the following channels:

🔸️ Post-Eruption Lahars (from 2018/2023 deposits): Miisi, Binaan Mabinit, Buyuan, Anoling, Matan-ag, and Basud Channels.

🔸️Non-Eruption Lahars (from older deposits): Masarawag and Maninila Channels (Guinobatan), and Quirangay, Tumpa, Sua, Muladbucad, Nasisi, Nabonton, Buang, San Vicente, Bulawan, and Lidong Channels.

Local Government Units (LGUs) and residents in the identified risk areas are strongly advised to continuously monitor rainfall conditions and take immediate pre-emptive response measures for safety.

The island is divided into four charming municipalities: , , , and .

Historically, Ticao's name is believed to derive from "tigao-tigao," a vine once abundant on its lush forests, used as a fish poison. Over time, the name evolved into Ticao, reflecting its deep-rooted connection to nature and local lore. Since the 16th century, Ticao has welcomed explorers and traders, with Spanish conquistadors like Captain Enrique de Guzman and Captain Andres de Ibarra exploring its coasts in 1569. The island's history is marked by interactions with Dutch, Spanish, and English seafarers, many of whom married into local communities, contributing to the island's diverse heritage and renowned beauty.
