Eto po ang mga Guidelines tungkol sa medical exam process para sa seafarers (PEME – Pre-Employment Medical Examination).Step by step at detalyado para malinaw:

✅. Ano ang PEME?
• PEME (Pre-Employment Medical Examination) – isang requirement bago pumasok sa barko.
• Layunin: siguraduhin na fit at healthy ang seafarer para sa work at environment sa barko.
• Kinakailangan ng maritime authority (POEA / DOH-accredited clinics sa Pilipinas) at mga manning agencies.
• Karaniwang valid ang certificate ng 1 year, pero may mga companies na mas gusto 6 months lang.

✅. Kailan ito kailangan?
• Bago mag-deploy sa barko bilang requirement ng employer.
• Bago mag-apply sa manning agency na may placement abroad.
• Kapag renewal ng contract o paglipat sa bagong kumpanya (depende sa requirement).

✅. Saan puwedeng mag-PEME?
• Dapat accredited ng POEA / DOH ang clinic o hospital.
• Importanteng huwag sa random clinic, baka hindi tanggap ng employer ang certificate.

✅. Mga Dokyumento na Kailangan
1. Valid ID (Passport, Driver’s License, PRC ID, etc.)
2. Seaman’s Book (kung meron na)
3. Previous medical records (kung meron)
4. Vaccination records (Yellow Fever, COVID-19, etc. kung required sa destination)

✅. Mga Examinations sa PEME

Karaniwang binubuo ito ng:

A. Physical Exam
• Height, weight, BMI
• Blood pressure, pulse, heart rate
• Vision (with or without correction), color vision
• Hearing test
• General physical evaluation (heart, lungs, abdomen, limbs)

B. Laboratory Tests
• Complete Blood Count (CBC)
• Urinalysis
• Fecalysis (stool test)
• Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS)
• Lipid profile (cholesterol, triglycerides)

C. Chest X-ray
• Para i-check kung may TB o iba pang lung infection

D. Electrocardiogram (ECG)
• Para sa heart evaluation, lalo na sa older seafarers o high-risk candidates

E. Drug Test
• Urine drug screening (maraming companies strict sa illegal drugs)

F. Additional / Specialist Consultation (if required)
• Eye doctor (ophthalmologist)
• ENT (ear, nose, throat)
• Dentist
• Surgeon / Cardiologist (kung may previous health issues)

✅. Vaccination Requirements
• Yellow Fever (para sa Africa, South America)
• COVID-19 / Influenza / Tetanus boosters (depende sa company policy)
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
• Hepatitis A & B

✅. Result / Clearance
• Kung pasado: bibigyan ka ng PEME Certificate / Seafarer’s Medical Certificate
• Kung may kondisyon: kailangan ma-treat o ma-clear muna ng specialist bago tanggapin sa deployment
• Certificate ay may validity period (6 months–1 year)

✅. Tips para sa PEME
1. Magpahinga at mag-hydrate bago ang exam.
2. Magdala ng kumpletong medical at vaccination records.
3. Iwasan muna ang alak at junk food 24 hrs bago exam.
4. Kung may chronic condition (BP, diabetes), siguraduhing controlled at may record ng gamot.
5. Sumunod sa lahat ng requirements ng clinic at employer.
