University Student Government (USG) President Abigail Hapal announced the proposition of an institutional anti-red-tagging policy, following a series of consultations with national and local youth coalitions such as the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP) and the Coalition of Concerned Lasallians (CCL) last April.

The proposed policy explicitly prohibits all forms of red-tagging within the University, including the labeling of individuals or organizations as communists or terrorists, the unauthorized sharing of AI-generated content targeting student groups, and the invitation of military or police forces into campus spaces without proper coordination and approval.

“Activism is not terrorism… Kung takot tayo sa kanila, ibig sabihin [ay] takot tayong may malaman sila,” Hapal emphasized.

Once passed, the policy would make DLSU-D one of the first academic institutions in the country to formally adopt an integrated anti-red-tagging policy.

Meanwhile, Hapal also addressed the proposed abolition of the Memorandum of Agreement on Non-Fraternities/Sororities and Organizations (MOANFSO) classification, which failed to gain full support from the administration.

University Student Government (USG) President Abigail Hapal outlined the proposed selection process for the next USG President and Vice President during the State of the University Student Government Address (SUSGA) held today, June 7.

In her address, Hapal shared a tentative timeline for the process, which includes a call for nominations from June 9 to 14 involving an electoral committee composed of student representatives, program coordinators, college governors, and the incumbent president. The selection will then proceed with interviews and voting scheduled from June 16 to 23, with the official announcement of the next executive officers set for June 25.

She clarified, however, that this process and timeline are still awaiting formal approval.

The initiative comes in response to the lack of candidates for the upcoming Special Elections 2025, to which Hapal noted, “Student governance is not sustainable without student choice.”
