Hey Filmmakers!

Quick update!

Due to multiple requests and a few projects still finalizing their materials, we’re extending the submission period for Cycle 3 by one more week!

📌 New deadline: July 31, 2025 – 11:59 PM

We hope this gives you just enough time to polish your applications and send them in. No other changes to the rest of the timeline. Recipients will still be announced on September 1.

Thank you to everyone who’s submitted so far, and to those still preparing, kaya pa ’yan.

We’re looking forward to reading your stories!

Hey Filmmakers!

Cycle 3 is officially open! 🖤

We’re happy to welcome you back to a new round of the Bipolaroid Film Fund.

For this cycle, we’re changing things up a bit:
👉 The submission period will run for only 3 weeks — from July 1 to July 22, 2025 (11:59 PM).
So if you’re planning to apply, make sure to get your materials in on time!

📣 Selected recipients will be announced on September 1, 2025.

What do recipients get?

🎬 A financial production grant
🎥 Free equipment rentals through our partner Tulayan Film Rentals
🤝 Creative and logistical support from fellow filmmakers and the Bipolaroid community
🌱 And new this cycle: we’re offering additional equipment rental discounts for select projects still in pre-production:
— 100% off
— 40% off
— 25% off

📌 You can submit your application through this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc1bpo4AGG2-WIoVZ0det_fgwrEAUaz47EvaUufj8VrsZ7a7w/viewform

Hey Filmmakers!

The next cycle starts soon and beginning this cycle, we're expanding the ways we support your films!

In addition to the regular Bipolaroid recipients who will receive the financial grant and equipment sponsorship, we’ll also be selecting additional projects currently in pre-production to receive equipment rental sponsorships or discounts from our partner, Tulayan Films.

These selected projects will receive:
— 100% off
— 40% off
— or 25% off
on their equipment rentals from Tulayan (Manpower & Transpo excluded.)

It’s our way of making sure that more stories get the support they deserve, even if they can’t all receive the full grant. No need for a separate application, just submit as usual and indicate in your production timeline that you're in pre-prod or will not have started principal shooting by time of announcement of recipients.

We’re excited to keep growing this small thing, together.

Hey there, Filmmakers!

We’re thrilled to welcome a brilliant new voice to our Cycle 3 jury!

Joining us as guest juror is none other than Jason Tan Liwag, whose sharp insights and deep love for cinema have shaped film conversations both locally and internationally. We’re honored to have him on board to help choose our next batch of Bipolaroid recipients.

Jason Tan Liwag (he/they, b. 1996) is a scientist, actor, writer, educator, and curator from Pangasinan, Philippines. His work examines the life cycle of moving images and criticism in Southeast Asia, focusing on state terror, memory, erasure, gender, and disability. An alumnus of film criticism programmes in Rotterdam, Udine, Yamagata, and Manila, he founded the QCinema Critics Lab and has written for CNN Philippines Life, Rappler, Inquirer Lifestyle, Rolling Stone Philippines, Vogue Philippines, Filmmaker Magazine, Documentary Magazine, and MUBI Notebook, among others. He has served on the juries and selection committees of festivals in Manila, Taipei, Bristol, San Diego, Dhaka, and Singapore. He is the first Filipino member of FIPRESCI and a three-time international voter for the Golden Globe Awards and the Dorian Awards. Currently, he programs shorts for QCinema and the Leeds International Film Festival, coordinates the iNDIEGENIUS Project Lab, and lectures part-time at iACADEMY and the CIIT College of Arts and Technology.

We’re incredibly grateful to have someone of his caliber onboard. We know his perspective will bring even more depth and care to the deliberation process.

We can’t wait to see what stories you’ll all be sharing with us this cycle!

Hey Filmmakers!

Good news!

After some thought, we’ve decided not to cap submissions at 30 entries for Cycle 3 of 2025. Instead, we’re going with a shorter submission window to help us manage the review process more smoothly.

Submissions will open on July 1 and close on July 22, 2025 at 11:59 PM (PH time) giving everyone three weeks to prepare and send in their projects.

We hope this gives you a bit more breathing room compared to rushing to be part of a limited 30. It also allows us more time to carefully read and reflect on each application.

As always, the announcement of recipients will be on September 1.
We’re excited to be back, and can’t wait to hear what stories you’re cooking up.

Maraming salamat sa patuloy na tiwala at suporta 💛

Hi Filmmakers!

After a short break, Bipolaroid is officially back!
We’re happy to announce that Cycle 3 will open for submissions on July 1, 2025. It’s been a meaningful pause for us, with some changes behind the scenes and in our personal lives, but the goal remains the same: to support small, independent filmmakers and film students in telling stories that matter.

This upcoming cycle, we’ll be making one small but important change: We’re putting a limit of 30 submissions.
Once we receive 30 completed applications, we’ll be closing the form. This is to make sure that we can give each project the time and attention it deserves, and that the review process stays thoughtful and fair for everyone. We know how much work and heart go into each submission, and we’re incredibly grateful every time someone trusts us with their project. So if you’re already cooking something up or thinking of applying, make sure to send your materials early 🫶

Thank you to everyone who’s stayed with us through each cycle, to our past and future recipients, and to those who continue to believe in what we’re trying to do.

See you again very, very soon.

Happy 2nd Anniversary, Bipolaroid!

Two years ago, Bipolaroid began with a simple goal: to support Filipino independent filmmakers and film students in telling their stories freely, authentically, and on their own terms.

Since then, we’ve been privileged to help bring more than 20 films to life, build bridges between audiences in Germany and the Philippines, and witness the powerful, deeply personal stories that emerge when trust and support are placed in the right hands.

The past year brought with it a number of changes and challenges. Some of our team members navigated major transitions in their personal and professional lives, and we made the difficult but necessary decision to pause Cycle 2 for internal restructuring. But we’ve used this time to reflect, refocus, and strengthen the foundation of Bipolaroid to ensure that we can continue to offer sustainable and meaningful support moving forward.

Despite these pauses, the year remained deeply fulfilling. We welcomed new recipients, held screenings, formed partnerships, and continued to grow the Bipolaroid community, one built on shared care, creativity, and the belief that Filipino cinema deserves space to thrive.

To our recipients and applicants, thank you for your courage and creativity.
To our partners, donors, and volunteers, thank you for your trust and generosity.
And to everyone who believes in what we do, thank you for making this all possible.

Cycle 3 opens this July, and we’re looking forward to continuing this work with renewed clarity and commitment!

Thank you for the past two years!
Here’s to many more!

Hello Filmmakers! 🎬

We have some unfortunate news 🥺

Cycle 2 of 2025 won’t be pushing through due to some big changes in the personal lives of the selection committee team (life be life-ing 🥲) on top of some internal restructuring we need to sort out.

BUT don’t you worry, Cycle 3 is still on and will open for submissions on July 1! ✨

Alam namin na some of you are already cooking up projects, and ang hassle mag-pause, pero we just need this time to make sure na Bipolaroid stays sustainable and solid for the long run.

Thanks for understanding, and see you sa next cycle! Can’t wait to see what you’ve all been working on!

🎉 Congratulations to the Recipients of Cycle 1, 2025🎉

We are thrilled to announce the recipients for this cycle! A huge round of applause for:

Langgam, Langgam by Hanns Scheewe

Sa Iyong Pagbalik by Jay-R Julio

Thank you to everyone who submitted their incredible projects. Once again, we received an overwhelming number of submissions, making the selection process incredibly difficult. We are deeply grateful for the immense talent and creativity that each submission brought to the table. While we would have loved to accept more projects, our current resources limited us to these two.

If your project was not selected this time and your schedule permits, we encourage you to submit again in the next cycle, which opens on April 1, 2025.

We look forward to seeing more of your amazing work!

Let's continue to support and celebrate Filipino indie filmmaking! 🎬✨
