Hey there, Filmmakers!
We’re thrilled to welcome a brilliant new voice to our Cycle 3 jury!
Joining us as guest juror is none other than Jason Tan Liwag, whose sharp insights and deep love for cinema have shaped film conversations both locally and internationally. We’re honored to have him on board to help choose our next batch of Bipolaroid recipients.
Jason Tan Liwag (he/they, b. 1996) is a scientist, actor, writer, educator, and curator from Pangasinan, Philippines. His work examines the life cycle of moving images and criticism in Southeast Asia, focusing on state terror, memory, erasure, gender, and disability. An alumnus of film criticism programmes in Rotterdam, Udine, Yamagata, and Manila, he founded the QCinema Critics Lab and has written for CNN Philippines Life, Rappler, Inquirer Lifestyle, Rolling Stone Philippines, Vogue Philippines, Filmmaker Magazine, Documentary Magazine, and MUBI Notebook, among others. He has served on the juries and selection committees of festivals in Manila, Taipei, Bristol, San Diego, Dhaka, and Singapore. He is the first Filipino member of FIPRESCI and a three-time international voter for the Golden Globe Awards and the Dorian Awards. Currently, he programs shorts for QCinema and the Leeds International Film Festival, coordinates the iNDIEGENIUS Project Lab, and lectures part-time at iACADEMY and the CIIT College of Arts and Technology.
We’re incredibly grateful to have someone of his caliber onboard. We know his perspective will bring even more depth and care to the deliberation process.
We can’t wait to see what stories you’ll all be sharing with us this cycle!
