Happy Sunday everyone!

𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟒:𝟏𝟑

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13

We have turned this verse into a war cry for winners. The slogan of champions, the mantra of the unstoppable. We write it on eye black before the game, tape it on mirrors before the interview, whisper it into the morning fog like a charm for the determined. “I can do all things” sounds like land the job, lift the weight, crush the goal.

But Paul was not holding a trophy. He was in chains.

He did not write Philippians 4:13 with calloused hands from training. He wrote it with shackled wrists from suffering. The ink of that verse flowed from a heart that had learned how to be hungry and still sing. How to be crushed and still content. Paul was not boasting about achievement. He was whispering about endurance.

Just a verse before, he spoke of learning the secret. The secret to surviving both feasts and famines, high praise and hard days. That secret was not a mindset. It was a man. Christ. The One who bled outside the city, who cried out in the garden, who went hungry in the wilderness. Christ. The One who knows how to strengthen a soul when the lights go out and the floor falls through.

“I can do all things” does not mean you will win. It means you will withstand. It does not promise a breakthrough. It promises that even in the breakdown, Jesus will be enough.

So let the world chase their victories. Let others plaster this verse on trophies and timelines. But you, weary believer, doubting disciple, struggling saint, you hold onto it in the prison cell, in the quiet suffering, in the gray in-between. Not as a chant for success but as a confession of survival.

You can do all things. Not because you are strong, but because He is.
