Antonio de Torres Jurado (1817–1892) was a Spanish luthier widely regarded as the father of the modern classical guitar. His innovations in guitar construction revolutionized the instrument's design and sound. Born in Almería, Spain, Torres refined the shape and structure of the guitar, increasing its size, improving the soundboard's resonance, and using a fan-bracing system to enhance its tonal quality and volume. These changes laid the foundation for the modern acoustic guitar, making it louder, more balanced, and capable of projecting its sound in concert settings. Torres' guitars are still celebrated for their craftsmanship and influence, and his designs continue to inspire luthiers around the world.
