When Nature Fought for Us—Sierra Madre Crushed the Eye of Uwan

The Sierra Madre mountain range once again proved its vital role in protecting Luzon after Super Typhoon Uwan’s powerful eye was disrupted shortly after landfall in Dinalungan, Aurora on Sunday night, November 9, 2025.

According to satellite observations, the storm’s eye—which earlier appeared well-defined and symmetrical—began to collapse as it encountered the rugged terrain of the Sierra Madre.

While Super Typhoon Uwan has slightly weakened after crossing land, it remains a powerful and dangerous system capable of unleashing destructive winds and torrential rains across Central and Northern Luzon.

Residents are still urged to remain alert against possible flash floods, landslides, and strong winds.
