SPC-SHS HONORS OUTSTANDING LEADERS AT GAWAD PEDRO ‘25
Embracing the theme, “Guiding with Grace, Serving with Love,” the San Pedro College - Senior High School (SPC-SHS) department held the Gawad Pedro Award 2025 on Saturday, July 5.
In a celebration filled with honor, pride, and stories of perseverance, the event began with an opening ritual, followed by the opening remarks of Atty. Marlou Jade Eliab, Head of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), highlighted the significance of recognizing student leaders who dedicate their time to serve without expecting anything in return.
“Let us honor and congratulate ourselves for reaching this point in our student leadership journey. I hope the student leaders and the moderators will carry with them the lesson, the principles, the values that we have imparted to us, not just today, not just for the next years to come, but I hope later on, these will have a lasting impact not just in San Pedro Senior High School Department but also in our society.”
As the event officially commenced, the hosts introduced the panel of judges and proceeded with the awards ceremony.
Winners of each category stood surprised and happy as they received an award they never expected they would have.
Mr. Ariel Pastera, the most outstanding Grade 11 Adviser and the most outstanding club/organization moderator, expressed his deep gratitude to his class advisory and the club he handled, Grade 11-S2, and the Directors’ Cut, saying that the award was not only his but also theirs.
Continuing the event, Artistic Unison Resonating Opuses (AURO) performed a harmonious rendition of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” that was then followed by another set of awardees.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jose Mari Logroño, assistant head of OSA in SHS, expressed his gratitude for the outstanding student leaders and moderators. “To our awardees, thank you for choosing to lead, not only for recognition but for service,” Logroño said.
On the other hand, a thrilling raffle took place that truly elevated the spirits of all the attendees, as they eagerly anticipated the chance to win exciting prizes. When the winners were announced, a wave of envy swept through the crowd, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
As the event came to an end, Mr. Kris Alger Saavedra, SHS Coordinator, delivered a heartwarming speech, leaving a religious saying, “Many are called but few are chosen.”
“You are chosen because you have embodied the ideas and standards of SPC as servant leaders. Despite your lack of training and capabilities, you accepted the challenge and responsibilities of becoming servant leaders.”
He then concluded his speech by saying, “God does not call those who are qualified, but He qualifies those He calls… Love serves always and in all ways.”
This year’s celebration was a grand culmination of dedication, leadership and service, shining a well-deserved spotlight on individuals and groups who have gone above and beyond in embodying the spirit of excellence and unity within the community.
As the echoes of celebration fade, the legacy of this event remains, challenging SPCians to serve with love and guide with grace.
