𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗯𝘀 𝟭𝟭:𝟭𝟱 (𝗡𝗟𝗧) highlights the wisdom of caution when it comes to financial obligations, especially those involving others.
Here, the verse warns against putting up security or acting as a guarantor for someone else’s debt. In ancient times, this meant legally agreeing to pay back a loan if the borrower couldn’t. Doing so could have serious consequences, including financial loss or even enslavement if the debt couldn’t be repaid.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧: it’s risky to take on responsibility for someone else’s financial obligations, particularly if you don’t know them well. By guaranteeing another person’s debt, you’re essentially placing yourself at risk for something you may not have control over. This proverb advocates for careful decision-making when it comes to such commitments, urging that it’s often wiser to avoid entangling yourself in another’s financial problems, as it could lead to hardship or danger.
