Quick Response Brings Hope to Fire Victims in Brgy. 21-Piapi Boulevard

DAVAO CITY — What could have been a night of despair turned into a moment of hope for residents of Barangay 21, Piapi Boulevard, after a devastating fire razed over 400 houses today, October 2.

Among those affected was Jabar Flores, who lost his home and nearly his life to the blaze.

Bisag panihapon wala gyud mi,” Flores said, holding back tears.

Barangay Captain Joenard Gabrillo confirmed the extent of the destruction.

The fire left hundreds of families displaced, but immediate assistance came as the City Social Development and Welfare Office (CSDWO), the Vice Mayor’s Office (VMO), and the 1st District Congressional Office rushed to the site with food packs, clothing, and emergency support, ensuring no one was left hungry even as the fire’s embers still glowed.

Acting Vice Mayor Rigo Duterte also assured the affected residents that they will not be left behind in the recovery process. Financial assistance will be given to each family, along with daily meals until their lives return to normal.

As of press time, assessment and listing of affected families remain ongoing, with barangay officials working hand in hand with city responders to determine the full scope of assistance needed.

Despite the heavy loss, the bayanihan spirit shone through Piapi Boulevard — proof that even in tragedy, compassion and quick action can light the way forward. # #

Senator B**g Go joins INC peace rally; calls for peace and unity to address challenges and highlights Filipinos' right to peaceful assembly

Senator Christopher “B**g” Go underscored the importance of peace and unity during the National Peace Rally organized by Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) on Monday, January 13. In an interview, the senator urged all leaders and citizens to prioritize unity to effectively address the needs of the people, particularly the underprivileged.

Ako naman po ever since, even during the time of former President Duterte, I am for peace. Matagal po ako nagtrabaho sa kanya. Gusto ko po ng kapayapaan, peace on earth, peace in our country,” he stated during an interview at the rally.

The senator highlighted the need to work collectively and avoid wasting time on unnecessary discord.

When asked about the event's political implications, Senator Go emphasized that his focus is not on politics and he remains centered on serving the people, especially the poor.
